Adult Spanish Club

On the 5th of each month, join the adult Spanish Club at El Loro to practice your conversation skills. Drinks are at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.

Monday, May 6

PEO Chapter DQ

Chapter DQ, P.E.O. meets at 1 p.m. in The Madison.  The hostess is Maureen Karsnia, with Gerry Langemo and Helen House Geeslin assisting.  Jane Besse will present the program.

Tuesday, May 7

High Mileage Fellowship

High Mileage Fellowship meets the first Tuesday of each month in Community Alliance Church, DL. There is a pot-blessing meal at noon, followed by a time of sharing birthdays and anniversaries, a Bible Nugget and special music. This is an inter-denominational fellowship for all those 55 and over.

Overeaters Anonymous, Serenity Group

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Women’s Bridge

Wednesday, May 8

Blood screenings

Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Mahnomen Clinic offers blood screenings from 7-9 a.m. at the clinic (117 North Main Street, Mahnomen). The blood draw and subsequent testing costs $35 and takes about 15 minutes. Pre-registration is preferred.  Call the Mahnomen clinic at (218) 936-5616 to sign up.

NARFE

Detroit Lakes NARFE (National Active & Retired Federal Employees) Chapter 1842 meets at noon in Holiday Inn. Speaker will be Dan Olson from Minnesota Pollution Control. For more information, contact President Virginia Weston at 218-847-6483.

DL Christian Women’s Club

The DL Christian Women’s Club hosts “Motherhood: From Panic to Peace” is from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Holiday Inn. Lunch cost is $8.75. Make reservations by May 6 to Norma at 846-1977 or Ruth at 847-5507.

Genealogical Society

The Heart O’Lakes Genealogical Society meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. There will be some time to research following the meeting. Let’s Go Fishing training

Current, past and prospective volunteers of the Detroit Lakes Area Let’s Go Fishing are invited to volunteer training/appreciation event at 6 p.m. at 29182 State Hwy 34, Detroit Lakes. RSVP by May 6 at 844-5106 or 846-1444.

TeacHaiti fundraiser

TeacHaiti fundraiser is at 6:30 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church, DL. Miquette Denie will be speaking at 6:30, with an ice cream social to follow. Tickets are $15 a person or $25 for two people.

MAC/NS

The May MAC-NAPS distribution is 3-5:30 p.m. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, DL. Applications are available at St. Luke’s Church. To qualify, you must be at least 60 years of age and meet the USDA income guidelines.

PEO Chapter FG

P.E.O Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Linda Engleman, with Ardys Horner and Paulette Dew assisting. Program will be presented by Sue Boyle. Dessert will be served.

‘Hats off to Moms’ luncheon

“Hats Off to Moms” Mother/Daughter Salad Luncheon is at noon in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee. Tickets are $8 and purchased by calling Pat at 334-2866. Attendees are encouraged to wear a favorite hat — old or new.

Cowboy Action Shooting

Lakes Country Woodcarvers

The Lakes Country Woodcarvers meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the storefront next to White Drug in the Washington Square Mall. Anyone with an interest is woodcarving is invited to stop in and visit. Everyone is welcome.

Mother’s Day dove release

Plant and Pest Clinics

Defensive driving classes

A defensive driving 4-hour class is May 9 from 5-9 p.m. for $13, and an 8-hour class is May 15-16 from 1-5 p.m. for $20. Classes are in the United Community Insurance Agency at 138 West Main St. Perham. Open to anyone wanting to maintain their 10 percent insurance discount. Kidsfirst preschool

Kidsfirst Preschool at First Lutheran Church, DL, began taking fall 2013 registrations. Please come in person and bring your child’s immunization records with you. Your child must be at least 3 years old to enroll. No phone registrations will be taken. Questions? Call Beth at 847-5656.

LP-A Community Education

The Lake Park-Audubon Community Education has several upcoming classes including:

  • May 7, 6-10 p.m., LPA elementary library. AARP class, 4-hour refresher course.   Fee is $18 for non-member and $16 for member.  Instructor is Tom Anderson. 
  • May 14, 6:30-8 p.m. at Country Fields Greenhouse. Would you like to have a garden, but think you don’t have the space?  Come see how to garden in containers or even hay bales. Fee is $6 plus supplies.
  • Looking for vendors. Do you have old books, antiques or have some starter plants to sell. The Lake Park Audubon Community is hosting an outdoor Flea Market on June 8 during the 29th Annual Audubon Crazy Days. The cost of a 10 x 20 ft. space is $15.  It is in the Bell State Bank parking lot and Eagle Street.

Toastmasters

The newly restructured 412 Lakes Area Toastmasters meets on the first and third Friday of each month from noon–1 p.m. in M State, room C-102 in Detroit Lakes. Meetings are free to the public and visitors are welcome.

TOPS chapter 30

Minnesota TOPS Chapter 30 meets Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church choir room.

TOPS chapter 1251

Minnesota TOPS Chapter 1251 meets every Tuesday in the Lake Park Lutheran Church, using the west church entrance to the basement. Weigh-ins start at 4 p.m., and the meeting at 4:15 p.m. New members are always welcome.  If you would like more information, contact 218-532-2883.
