Genealogical Society

The Heart O’Lakes Genealogical Society meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. There will be some time to research following the meeting. Let’s Go Fishing training

Current, past and prospective volunteers of the Detroit Lakes Area Let’s Go Fishing are invited to volunteer training/appreciation event at 6 p.m. at 29182 State Hwy 34, Detroit Lakes. RSVP by May 6 at 844-5106 or 846-1444.

TeacHaiti fundraiser

TeacHaiti fundraiser is at 6:30 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church, DL. Miquette Denie will be speaking at 6:30, with an ice cream social to follow. Tickets are $15 a person or $25 for two people.

MAC/NS

The May MAC-NAPS distribution is 3-5:30 p.m. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, DL. Applications are available at St. Luke’s Church. To qualify, you must be at least 60 years of age and meet the USDA income guidelines.

PEO Chapter FG

P.E.O Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Linda Engleman, with Ardys Horner and Paulette Dew assisting. Program will be presented by Sue Boyle. Dessert will be served.

Friendly Square dance

The Park Rapids Friendly Squares host a square dance at the Century School.  The caller will be Larry Pfenning, and Donna Stone will cue rounds between tips.  There will be a “plus” workshop from 7:30 to 8 p.m., and mainstream dancing from 8 to 10.  There will be a potluck lunch after the dance furnished by the club. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.

‘Hats off to Moms’ luncheon

“Hats Off to Moms” Mother/Daughter Salad Luncheon is at noon in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee. Tickets are $8 and purchased by calling Pat at 334-2866. Attendees are encouraged to wear a favorite hat — old or new.

Cowboy Action Shooting

The Sucker Creek Outlaws hold a monthly shoot at 1 p.m. at the Becker County Sportsman’s Club. For more information, call 847-3644 or 849-8803.

Lakes Country Woodcarvers

The Lakes Country Woodcarvers meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the storefront next to White Drug in the Washington Square Mall. Anyone with an interest is woodcarving is invited to stop in and visit. Everyone is welcome.

Grieving my way

Grieving my Way, a support group for parents who have experienced the loss of a child of any age, meets the second Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Hospice building. For more info, call Brenda at 846-9275.

Community garden meeting

The informational and sign up meeting for the Community Garden is at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Garden located at 1016 11th Ave. SE (across from Snappy’s in the Industrial Park). Overeaters Anonymous, Serenity Group

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Sons of Norway

Vikingland Lodge No. 495, Detroit Lakes, meets at 7 p.m. in Union Central, DL. The program is Verlyn Anderson, retired professor from Moorhead, who is extremely knowledgeable in Norwegian heritage, culture and history. He has been to Norway dozens of times and has been on the Hurtrigurten Ships 12 times working for the Smithsonian Institute. Public is invited to attend.

Women’s Bridge
