Wolves presentation

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts Wolves: Paws, Claws & Bushy Tails at 2 p.m. Learn how this species was decimated and how the Endangered Species Act made their incredible journey of recovery possible.  We’ll take a look at their natural history and family social structure as well an update on Tamarac’s wolves. Then we’ll journey into Tamarac’s wild wolf habitat. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area located on County Hwy 26 3 miles east of the visitor center.

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Learn to fish for free

The DNR hosts MinnAqua’s Peers to Piers program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday on the Little Detroit Lake pier across from El Loro restaurant. The DNR provides all fishing equipment and bait for kids wanting to learn to fish. Kids fish for free up to age 16 with no license required. Lake Region Garden Club

Lake Region Garden Club holds its annual potluck picnic at 6 p.m. at the Richard and Judy Zurn farm. If you have questions, call 847-8788.

Lake Park Garden Club

The Lake Park Garden Club meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Cormorant Park Place Clubhouse, Lake Park. This is the final planning meeting before the Aug. 1 hosting of the 2013 District 11 Horticultural Show.

Saturday, July 20

Friendly Squares dance

The Park Rapids Friendly Squares hosts a square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the Park Rapids Eagles Club. The caller will be Tom Allen, and Donna Stone will cue round dances between tips. There will be mainstream dancing with occasional plus tips. There will be finger food available after the dance. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.

Old Time Variety Dance

An old time variety dance is from 7 to 19 p.m. in the White Pine Room, Frazee. Music is by Jerry’s Dance Band.

Bearclaw Muzzleloaders

The Bearclaw Muzzleloaders of Northern Minnesota annual Rendezvous is July 20-21 at the Height of Land Sportsmans Club, east of Detroit Lakes on Highway 34. Follow the signs. There will be a re-enactment of pre-1840 and competitions held throughout the day. The public is welcome. It is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 pm. And Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon. For additional information, contact Al Witthoeft at 841-7096 or check at the Chamber of Commerce for a flyer.

Shoreham Chapel

Historic Shoreham Chapel, non-denominational, between Lake Melissa and Lake Sallie, holds services now-Sept. 1 at 10:45 a.m. It is open to the public. Coffee and refreshments follow the service. Dan Danielson, director of New Life Center in Fargo, and Rev. Tim Cook, Chaplain of St. Mary’s Hospital in DL, will be officiating at different times. Kathie Brekke and the apostles Blues Band will perform at the opening service.

DLHS Class of 1973

The Detroit Lakes High School Class of 1973 will hold its 40th reunion on Saturday July 27, in the American Legion Club. Social is at 5 p.m., followed by a picture at 6:45, dinner at 7 and a dance after dinner. Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity will serve hamburgers, hot dogs and brats along with sides, each Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the DL City Park before the Tuesdays in the Park band concerts in the Bandshell. It is a freewill offering. Concerts then start at 7. Bring a lawn chair.
