Hidden Talent Show

The Wayne Nelson Memorial Hidden Talent Show is at 7 p.m. at the Cormorant Community Center. Come for entertainment, fun and laughs. Ice cream will be served following the program.  Tickets are $5.

Lakes Area Quilters

The Lakes Area Quilters holds their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in Emmanuel Nursing Home in the Aspen Room.  All interested quilters are welcome to attend.

Wildlife Excursion

Tamarac Refuge hosts a Wildlife Excursion at 10 a.m. Explore the refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area on Cty. Hwy. 26 just 3 miles east of the visitor center for this two hour driving tour.

Washington School breakfast

The annual Washington School Breakfast begins at 9 a.m. in Union Central (aka Washington School). All former employees of Washington School are encouraged to attend.

Talk of the Town

Cormorant’s Talk of the Town features Daryl Ritchison, WDAY meteorologist, at 9 a.m. in the Cormorant Community Center. Come for free coffee, cookies and conversation.

Saturday, July 27

LP Firemen’s dance

The Lake Park Firemen’s Street Dance is from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Lake Park fire bay. Music is by Boomtown. 

Chili feed

The annual Height of Land Sportmen’s Club hosts a chili feed from 11 a.m. until it’s gone. It is a free will donation. There will also be door prizes and raffles.

Tree trek

Tamarac Refuge hosts a Tree Trek at 10 a.m. Discover the forest! During this hike, we will see how many of Tamarac’s 36 species of trees we can identify. We will also take a peek at their neighbors, the shrubs and forest floor plants. Hikers will receive a complete Tamarac tree checklist and a partial list of other plants likely to be encountered. Hand lenses will be provided for looking closely at some of the characteristics. Meet at the 400th Ave. Trailhead. Wear good hiking shoes, bring water and a snack (or lunch) for this two hour trek.

Fresh air Sunday

Lund Lutheran Church, Richwood Road, hosts fresh air Sunday with worship outside beginning at 9 a.m. Bring your lawn chair and sunscreen. Special music is by Bob Johnson and members of the Uffda Mountain Boys.

Shoreham Chapel

Shoreham Chapel hosts special music by Karen Gunderson out of Phoenix and her daughter, Joy, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The service follows at 10:45, with Pastor Tim Cook.

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Learn to fish for free

The DNR hosts MinnAqua’s Peers to Piers program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday on the Little Detroit Lake pier across from El Loro restaurant. The DNR provides all fishing equipment and bait for kids wanting to learn to fish. Kids fish for free up to age 16 with no license required. Women’s Bridge

DLHS Class of 1973

The Detroit Lakes High School Class of 1973 will hold its 40th reunion on Saturday, July 27, in the American Legion Club. Social is at 5 p.m., followed by a picture at 6:45, dinner at 7 and a dance after dinner. DLHS Class of 1988

The Detroit Lakes High School Class of 1988 is holding a reunion Aug. 9-10, and it is open to all classes. Aug. 9 includes dinner and cocktails at the Sandbar beginning at 5 p.m. Aug. 10 includes visiting the high school at 5 p.m., class picture on the football field at 6:15, and Zorbaz at 7. LP-A defensive driving

Shoreham Chapel

Historic Shoreham Chapel, non-denominational, between Lake Melissa and Lake Sallie, holds services now-Sept. 1 at 10:45 a.m. It is open to the public. Coffee and refreshments follow the service. Dan Danielson, director of New Life Center in Fargo, and Rev. Tim Cook, Chaplain of St. Mary’s Hospital in DL, will be officiating at different times. Kathie Brekke and the apostles Blues Band will perform at the opening service.

Jaspers Theater

Jaspers Theater, Park Rapids, opens July 10. Come for the family-friendly music, magic and comedy shows each Wednesday and Thursday at 3 p.m., July 10-Aug. 17, and Saturdays July 20, 27, Aug. 17 and 24. Make reservations at 218-237-4333.

Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity will serve hamburgers, hot dogs and brats along with sides, each Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the DL City Park before the Tuesdays in the Park band concerts in the Bandshell. It is a freewill offering. Concerts then start at 7. Bring a lawn chair.
