Thursday, Aug. 8

Plantar Fasciitis

Jake Januszewski, PT, and Andy Moen, podiatrist, present Plantar Fasciitis: A Real Pain in the Foot” is at 2 p.m. in the DLCCC conference room. It is open to the public.

Tanya Todd performs

Tanya Todd, Christian music artist, performs at 7 p.m. in the Cormorant Community Center. Admission is $5 for adults, and age 12 and under are free.

Genealogical society

Heart O’Lakes Genealogical Society meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum.  The meeting is open to the public. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. There will be some time to research following the meeting. PEO Chapter FG

P.E.O Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Elaine Graf, with Nancy Kramer and Linda Sheryak assisting. Program will be presented by Kirsten Vogt.  Dessert will be served.

Becker County Republicans meet at 7 p.m. in the DL City Offices.

Tamarac program

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge host a Wildlife Excursion at 10 a.m. Search for wildlife and learn about the natural and cultural history of the refuge on this two hour guided driving tour. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area located on Cty Hwy 26 three miles east of the visitor center.

Friday, Aug. 9

Talk of the Town

Ghazi Hassoun, native of Palestine, speaks on recollections and reflections of her home country at 9 a.m. in the Cormorant Community Center. Come for free coffee, cookies and conversation.

1 Mile Down to the Lake

The inaugural 1 mile road race begins at 7 p.m. at the Essentia Health St. Mary’s campus. Race goes down Washington Avenue to the city beach. Register at or at the race. Cost is $25 and includes timing chip and T-shirt.

Saturday, Aug. 10

Pig roast

The Elbow/Tulaby Volunteer Fire Dept. hosts their 22nd annual Pig Roast from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the fire hall, located on State Hwy. 113 about 20 miles east of Waubun.  Cost is $8-12 and over, $5 for ages 6-11 and free to under 6.

Church rummage sale

St. Luke’s Church, DL, annual rummage sale is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds benefit youth programs and local outreach programs.

Cowboy Action Shooting

A cowboy action shooting with the Sucker Creek Outlaws has registration from noon to 12:45 p.m., with the shoot starting at 1, at the Becker County Sportsman’s Club, Highway 10. Anyone interested can call Lee at 218-849-8803 or Les at 218-396-0532 for more information.

Art & Craft Affair

Art of the Lakes holds its annual Art & Craft Affair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Railroad Park, located on the south end of Battle Lake along Highway 78.

Tamarac program

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts Owls, Howls and Shooting Stars from 7 to 9 pm. Join us for an evening of discovery as we witness the fall of night. Listen to the sounds of Tamarac’s wildlife and learn how they adapt to the darkness. Use your senses and become part of their world while experiencing the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Meet at the refuge shop parking area, 1/4 mile east of the visitor center on Cty Hwy. 26.

Sunday, Aug. 11

Mutt March

The Marshmallow Foundation hosts a Mutt March from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There are three routes to choose from, and registration is $15 per person. There will be food, carnival games, bake sale and a silent auction. There will be a gun raffle at 3.

Artsy Fartsy Show

An Artsy Fartsy Show is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1210 Co. Hwy #4, Vergas (across from J and K). It includes works from Carol Schwandt Albright: pottery/sculpture; Carmen Bruhn/watercolor; plus wood bowls and fish decoys.

Grieving my way

Sons of Norway

Vikingland Lodge 495, Detroit Lakes, meets at 7 p.m. in Union Central on Lake Avenue. DL Women’s Bowling Assoc.

The Detroit Lakes Women’s Bowling Association annual fall meeting is in the Legion Club rooms. Directors meeting is at 6:30 p.m., secretary workshop is at 7 and general meeting is at 7:30. All leagues must be represented.

Women’s Bridge

The Detroit Lakes Alano Club hosts a rummage sale Aug. 16-17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, at 827 Summit Avenue. Donations for the sale will be accepted starting Aug. 10.

DLHS Class of 1988

The Detroit Lakes High School Class of 1988 is holding a reunion Aug. 9-10, and it is open to all classes. Aug. 9 includes dinner and cocktails at the Sandbar beginning at 5 p.m. Aug. 10 includes visiting the high school at 5 p.m., class picture on the football field at 6:15, and Zorbaz at 7. Thistle Down Run

LP-A defensive driving

Shoreham Chapel

Historic Shoreham Chapel, non-denominational, between Lake Melissa and Lake Sallie, holds services now-Sept. 1 at 10:45 a.m. It is open to the public. Coffee and refreshments follow the service. Dan Danielson, director of New Life Center in Fargo, and Rev. Tim Cook, Chaplain of St. Mary’s Hospital in DL, will be officiating at different times.

Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity will serve hamburgers, hot dogs and brats along with sides, each Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the DL City Park before the Tuesdays in the Park band concerts in the Bandshell.
