Sunday, Sept. 1

Pancake breakfast

The Elbow-Tulaby Lakes Volunteer Fire Dept. hosts their last pancake breakfast of the year from 8 a.m. to noon at the Fire Hall, located about 20 miles east of Waubun on Hwy. 113. Cost is $5 for adults, $1 for children 2-6 and free until 2 years.

Pancake breakfast

The Knights of Columbus sponsors a pancake/French toast and sausage breakfast from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center.

Habitat for Humanity open house

Habitat for Humanity of the Lakes Area holds an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 523 Union Street, Detroit Lakes. This is a chance for the public to see what a Habitat house looks like when it’s completed. The former habitat house has been refurbished and is now for sale.

Shoreham Chapel

Historic Shoreham Chapel, non-denominational, between Lake Melissa and Lake Sallie, holds its last service of the season at 10:45 a.m. It is open to the public. Coffee and refreshments follow the service.

Tuesday, Sept. 3

High Mileage Fellowship

High Mileage Fellowship meets the first Tuesday of each month in Community Alliance Church, DL. There is a pot-blessing meal at noon, followed by a time of sharing birthdays and anniversaries, a Bible Nugget and special music. This is an inter-denominational fellowship for all those 55 and over.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Caregivers discussion

Discussion Group for Caregivers meets at 10 a.m. in the conference room at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes. Come and join us for friendly visiting, encouragement and coffee. Women’s Bridge

Thursday, Sept. 5

Adult Spanish Club

On the 5th of each month, join the adult Spanish Club at El Loro to practice your conversation skills. Drinks are at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.

MAC/NAPS

The September MAC-NAPS distribution is at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church from 3-5:30 p.m. Applications are available at St. Luke’s Church. To qualify, you must be at least 60 years of age and meet the USDA income guidelines.

Friday, Sept. 6

Salad luncheon

Grace Lutheran Church, DL, hosts its annual salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $7. Tickets are available at the church from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday-Friday, and at the luncheon.

BC Farmers Union

The Becker County Farmers Union Convention is at 6 p.m. in the Holiday Inn. Election of officers and delegates will take place. For more information, call Roger at 334-4631.

Saturday, Sept. 7

Women of Today

Join the Women of Today as they serve up pancakes in the Detroit Lakes City Park from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. It is a free will donation. All proceeds will benefit the Isaac’s Journey Foundation to support childhood cancer research. For more information on this organization, please visit www.isaacsfoundation.org.

Danielson benefit

A benefit for Bruce Danielson, who has cancerous tumors in his head, is from 5-9 p.m. in the Cormorant Community Center. There will be a free will offering supper, bake sale, games, door prizes and silent auction. Donations can be made at State Bank of Lake Park.

PEO Chapter DQ

Chapter DQ, P.E.O. meets for a potluck social at noon in the home of Liz Fossen.  Assisting the hostess are Helen House Geeslin,  Nancy Nereson and Maureen Karsnia.

Early birding adventure

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts an Early Birding Adventure at 8:30 a.m. Join us for a beginning birding tour and find out the inside scoop on Tamarac’s fall hotspots. Do you live here year-round? We’ll fill you in on spring birding areas as well. Learn to identify 20 species. Binoculars and guide books will be available. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area located on Cty Hwy 26, three miles east of the visitor center for this two hour excursion.

Sunday, Sept. 8

Church fall dinner

Lake Grove Lutheran Church fall dinner is from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. Adults are $8, ages 6-11 are $4 and under 6 are free. There will also be a Country Store.

Fall dinner and raffle

Assumption Catholic Church, Callaway, hosts a fall dinner and raffle from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Callaway Event Center. There will be a silent auction, games, cake walk and a roast beef dinner. Adults are $8, kids 6-12 are $4 and ages 5 and under are free.

Rally Sunday

Come One! Come All!  Rally Sunday is at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee. Join them for worship, Sunday school, ministry fair, games and a free spaghetti dinner from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Detroit Lakes Sons of Norway No. 495 Vikingland Lodge is offering a free dinner to anyone interested in learning about the Sons of Norway organization. Are you interested in tracing your ancestors, want to learn how to do rosemale painting, do hardanger stitchery, make tine boxes, learn how to make lefse, Vikingland Lodge can help you with all of these, plus more.
