Columbus Day dinner
The Knights of Columbus annual Columbus Day dinner is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center. Adults are $9 and ages 4 to 12 are $4.

DL Breakfast Rotary Club hosts a wine tasting event at Spanky’s Stone Hearth. Happy hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7. A Becker County Disaster Drill will be at 6 p.m. at the Becker County Courthouse. The drill will educate and train law enforcement, fire and EMS rescue. This is just a training exercise and no need for alarm.

Human society fundraiser
A Human Society of the Lakes fundraiser offers several wine tasting stations, along with the tasty gourmet appetizers from The Fireside from 7-10 p.m. The fun, casual evening will also include a variety of ‘wine’ themed trinkets for sale. Music by acoustic guitar player Mike Holtz is at 8; Scott Lindman from Paustis Wine Company will do a short presentation. A limited number of tickets are on sale now for $40 and all ticket buyers will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 gift certificate to The Fireside and 2 tickets to a future wine tasting event at The Fireside. Eagles charity auction
The Detroit Lakes Eagles host a live charity auction for members and guests at 6 p.m. A few of the items on the auction include WE Fest tickets, bathroom faucet and pontoon ride among others.
A benefit for Rob Vigesaa is from 5 to 11 p.m. at Shorewood Pub, DL. There will be a silent auction, raffle and spaghetti dinner. Donations can also be made at American National Bank, DL. Rob was involved in a motorcycle accident and sustained serious head and body injuries.
Old time variety dance

DL ECFE pictures
The Detroit Lakes Early Childhood Family Education and School Readiness programs invite all families with preschoolers to join them for their annual photo fundraiser at the Lincoln Education Center on Oct. 14-15 from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Photos will be taken by Wagoner Portrait Studio and 10 percent of all sales are returned to our preschool program to purchase supplies. Packages cost $19 and include one 8 x 10, two 5 x 7, two 4 x 6, eight regular wallets and one CD of your photos with copyright release. Families can have their child’s picture taken alone, have all of your children taken together, take the whole family, just the grown-ups, and even grandpa and grandma. Pumpkins and ponies
On Oct. 19-20, Timberline Ranch hosts Pumpkins and Ponies filled with pony rides, horse rides, small petting farm, hot dogs over afire and more pumpkins from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. weather permitting. Cost is $20. Timberline is located off Highway 34 east on Highway 25 north.
Track, Field fundraiser
Ten DLHS girls have been selected to compete in Australia next summer in the Down Under International Track and Field competition. To cover travel expenses, they are selling Culligan Softener Salt and delivering it to customers’ homes. The delivered price will be $6.50 for a 40 pound back of regular salt, and $7.50 for a 40 pound bag of the Culligan Iron Out salt. Trinity Lutheran Church, DL, hosts a coat give-away (winter coats, hats, shoes, mittens, sweatshirts and other clothing). Items are on a first come, first serve basis, and sizes child to adult are available. The give-away is Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Oct. 14-16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A homebuyer education program coming to Detroit Lakes offers the chance to be informed before you buy. “Home Stretch” is an eight-hour workshop offered by a network of trained homebuyer educators throughout the state. Aho benefit fund
An account has been set up for Amanda Aho who was diagnosed with Hodkin’s Lymphoma, 16 weeks after learning she’s pregnant with her third child. She started chemo in July, andonce the baby is born in November, she will continue chemo and have radiation. The account is set up at Midwest Bank, Detroit Lakes.
The Becker County Sportsmen’s Club holds a rifle sight-in on Nov. 2-3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be no charge for members showing their current membership card. Others are charged $5 per gun. Youth shooters ages 12-18 will be admitted free by showing their MN Firearms safety Certificate.
