GreenStep Cities seminar

A seminar on the Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a free and voluntary challenge, assistance and recognition program to help municipalities look to the future. The seminar is from 3:30 to 5 p.m., with social time and a free light meal from 5-6. RSVP to sustainableike@hotmail.com or 612-388-5623.

BC Township officers

The Becker County Association of Township Officers meets at 7:15 p.m. in the court house, third floor jury assembly room. Registration is at 6:45.

ULTRA club meeting

The ULTRA Snowmobile Club of Detroit Lakes meets at 7 p.m. in the Eagles Club, Detroit Lakes.  The agenda for this month will include the fall preparation of trails. There are always lots of tree trimming and other work that needs to be done in the fall to have good trails for riding in the winter. Extra volunteer help is needed to get that done. All interested snowmobilers are invited to attend the meeting.

Music teachers

Members of the Lakes Area Independent Music Teachers Association meet at 11:30 a.m. in Country Kitchen, DL. All area Independent Music Teachers are invited to attend. For information, call 847-3828.

Saturday, Oct. 26

Tommeraus benefit

A benefit for Peggy (Leapaldt) Tommeraus is from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Best Western Doublewood Inn, Fargo. She is in need of a double lung transplant. There will be a live and silent auction, raffle, bake sale and spaghetti dinner.

Refuge dinner

The Refuge hosts a free meal from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by David Lorin Gens at 7 p.m. with music and ministry. Free will offering is accepted.

Tablez a la Kidz

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, hosts “Tablez a la Kidz” from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Children age 3-ll are invited to sit at a specially decorated table and enjoy lunch, activities and ice cream sundaes. Please call 334-5061 to reserve a seat at one of the following tables: Monster University, Boo-tiful Halloween, Cupcakes, Minecraft, Mickey Mouse Club House and Sophia the First. Cost is $10 per child. Everyone is welcome.

Pine Point Haunted House

The Pine Point Haunted House, Ponsford, is from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $5 per person and proceeds go to the Pine Point Powwow Committee.

Rising Sun Dancers

The Rising Sun Dancers host a square dance from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. Jim Jirak will call the tips. Lunch will be served by the club. Visitors and spectators are always welcome.

Odd Fellows meeting

An Odd Fellows meeting is at 1:30 p.m. in the hall at 118 W. Holmes St. Visitors are always welcome.

DL Area Birding Club

The Detroit Lakes Area Birding Club meets at 7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Public Library.  Area photographers Jim Sinclair, Jr. and Lee Kensinger will share some of their favorite photos of birds and nature, including some of Jim’s recent award-winning photographs taken at the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge.  The public is welcome.

Fall Festival

The Detroit Lakes Early Childhood Family Education program hosts its annual Fall Festival Oct. 24 from 4:30-6 p.m. and Oct. 25 from 10–11:30 a.m. in the Lincoln Education Center. This free drop-in event offers exciting activities and fun games especially for preschoolers, their families and child care providers. Everyone is invited to come in costumes that are not violent or scary. For more information, please call 844-4797.

Roses from Rotary

Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club is selling Roses from Rotary, with pick-up dates Nov. 6-8 at Bergen’s Greenhouse, DL Floral & gifts and Jimmy’s Pizza/Zee Lanes in Frazee. One dozen roses are $20, and tickets can be purchased at DL Newspapers or from Breakfast Rotary members.

Youth Journeys program

Hospice of the Red River Valley holds its Youth Journeys program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Hospice of the Red River Valley, 1701 38th Ave. S., Fargo. The program is open to all youth, ages 6-18, who have experienced the death of someone close to them. The day will be led by grief specialists and includes exploring what grief is and feelings associated with grief, along with identifying sources of support and methods of self care. Registration is required by Oct. 28 and space is limited. Portions of the day include parent or guardian participation. For more information or to register, call (701) 356-1500.

Track, Field fundraiser

Ten DLHS girls have been selected to compete in Australia next summer in the Down Under International Track and Field competition. To cover travel expenses, they are selling Culligan Softener Salt and delivering it to customers’ homes. The delivered price will be $6.50 for a 40 pound back of regular salt, and $7.50 for a 40 pound bag of the Culligan Iron Out salt. Delivery date will be either Oct. 26 or 27, and people can order by contacting Mike Labine at 218-841-0601 or emailing mlabine@detlakes.k12.mn.us.

EMS classes

St. Mary’s EMS is hosting two classes. An EMT class is Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 26-April 10, from 6-10 p.m. in the St. Mary’s EMS building. Cost is $675. A First Responder class is Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 3-March 31, from 6-10 p.m. in the EMS building. Cost is $25. For questions or to sign up for either class, contact Brent Kaiser at 847-0817.

Aho benefit fund

An account has been set up for Amanda Aho who was diagnosed with Hodkin’s Lymphoma, 16 weeks after learning she’s pregnant with her third child. She started chemo in July, and once the baby is born in November, she will continue chemo and have radiation. The account is set up at Midwest Bank, Detroit Lakes.

Rifle sight-in

The Becker County Sportsmen’s Club holds a rifle sight-in on Nov. 2-3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be no charge for members showing their current membership card. Others are charged $5 per gun. Youth shooters ages 12-18 will be admitted free by showing their MN Firearms safety Certificate.

Holiday Vendor Blender

Lake Park Audubon Community Education is hosting a Holiday Vendor Blender and Craft Bazaar on Nov. 23 in the Lake Park High School gym and theater. An 8 x 8 space is $12 if you bring your own table. L.A. Moms group

L.A. (Lakes Area) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Moms group, you will have a chance to socialize with other moms, hear some great teaching, have discussion time and participate in creative activities. L.A. Minnesota TOPS Chapter 30 meets Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church choir room.

TOPS chapter 1251

Minnesota TOPS Chapter 1251 meets every Tuesday in the Lake Park Lutheran Church, using the west church entrance to the basement. Weigh-ins start at 4 p.m., and the meeting at 4:15 p.m. New members are always welcome.  If you would like more information, contact 218-532-2883.

The DL Senior Citizen Center hosts a card making and scrapbooking class every Monday from 9 a.m. to noon. Donated cards are welcome.
