Thursday, Oct. 31

Halloween event

A free, warm and safe Halloween event for kids of all ages is from 5 to 7 p.m. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, DL. Come for trick or treats, pinatas, prizes, games, pizza, crafts and more. Everyone is welcome.

Trick of treating

There will be trick or treating from 3 to 5 p.m. in Diamond Willow, 1558 Randolph Road, DL. Everyone is welcome.

Parkinson’s Support Group

Ecumen Detroit Lakes Parkinson’s Support Group meets at 2 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church. Dee Rae Nelson, speech pathologist, will speak on the LOUD program. For more information, contact Sue Sorensen at 844-7118.

Trunk or treat

Christian Fellowship Church, DL, hosts Trunk or Treat for the kids from 5:30-7 p.m. in the church parking lot. Members of the congregation will have their vehicles decorated and kids go from car to car and treat or treat. There will also be a bonfire, hot chocolate and cider.

Saturday, Nov. 2

Church bazaar

The United Methodist Church, DL, hosts a bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be served. There will also be fair trade coffee, knives, crafts, gift baskets, baked goods, plants and more.

McDougal benefit

A benefit for Mary McDougal is at 6 p.m. in the Eagles Club, Detroit Lakes. There will be a meatball dinner and silent auction. Mary is recovering from a bone marrow transplant, and proceeds will go towards medical bills. Donations can also be made at Bell State Bank and Trust.

Tretbar benefit

A benefit for Tony Tretbar is from 4 to 7 p.m. in Osage Community Center. It is a free-will offering chili feed. There will also be a silent auction. Tony was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July 2013. The donations will be used to help defray medical bills and transportation to and from Fargo for treatment.

Movie Hour

Detroit Lakes native Gayle Knutson presents three of her short films at 1:30 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, DL. It is free and everyone is welcome.

Sunday, Nov. 3

Pancake breakfast

The Knights of Columbus sponsor a pancake/French toast and sausage breakfast from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center.

Sound of the Trumpet

Joel Finnesgard presents Sound of the Trumpet, easy listening, inspiring and uplifting instrumental music, at 7 p.m. in Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, located at 404 Richwood Road (Adventist building). It is a free-will offering.

Monday, Nov. 4

LP-A fall concert

The Lake Park-Audubon High School Music Department presents the 2013 fall concert “Of Thee I Sing, America!” at 7:30 p.m. in the high school theatre. It will feature the junior high and senior high choirs. It is free admission.

Tuesday, Nov. 5

High Mileage Fellowship

High Mileage Fellowship meets the first Tuesday of each month in Community Alliance Church, DL. There is a pot-blessing meal at noon, followed by a time of sharing birthdays and anniversaries, a Bible Nugget and special music. This is an inter-denominational fellowship for all those 55 and over.

Adult Spanish Club

On the 5th of each month, join the adult Spanish Club at El Loro to practice your conversation skills. Drinks are at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Caregivers discussion group

Discussion Group for Caregivers meets at 10 a.m. in the conference room at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, DL. Come and join us for friendly visiting, encouragement and coffee. Roses from Rotary

Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club is selling Roses from Rotary, with pick-up dates Nov. 6-8 at Bergen’s Greenhouse, DL Floral & gifts and Jimmy’s Pizza/Zee Lanes in Frazee. One dozen roses are $20, and tickets can be purchased at DL Newspapers or from Breakfast Rotary members.

EMS classes

St. Mary’s EMS is hosting two classes. An EMT class is Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 26-April 10, from 6-10 p.m. in the St. Mary’s EMS building. Cost is $675. A First Responder class is Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 3-March 31, from 6-10 p.m. in the EMS building. Cost is $25. For questions or to sign up for either class, contact Brent Kaiser at 847-0817.

Becker County rifle sight-in

The Becker County Sportsmen’s Club holds a rifle sight-in on Nov. 2-3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be no charge for members showing their current membership card. Others are charged $5 per gun. Youth shooters ages 12-18 will be admitted free by showing their MN Firearms safety Certificate.

Osage rifle sight-in

Osage Sportsmens Club will open their range again for Rifle Sight-In Nov. 1-8. Hours are 9 a.m. to dusk, except Sunday which is noon to dusk. Cost is $5 per rifle. Targets and professional assistance available. For more information contact Al Belt 218-732-0978.

Holiday Vendor Blender

Lake Park Audubon Community Education is hosting a Holiday Vendor Blender and Craft Bazaar on Nov. 23 in the Lake Park High School gym and theater. An 8 x 8 space is $12 if you bring your own table. L.A. (Lakes Area) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Birthing class

Essentia Health St. Mary’s hosts childbirth preparation classes for expectant mothers in their sixth to seventh month of pregnancy. Topics include Labor & Delivery, Cesarean Birth, Role of the Labor Companion, Newborn Care, Unexpected Outcomes, Breast & Bottle Feeding, Postpartum Period, Breathing Patterns & Relaxation Techniques.
