Brunch and Basket event
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee, hosts Brunch and Basket event from 9 to 11 a.m. There will be egg bake for brunch and a silent auction of baskets. Brunch is $6 and children 5 and under are $3. Everyone is welcome.
St. Theodore’s Church, Ponsford/Pine Point, hosts turkey bingo beginning at 1:30 p.m. There will be 20 games, and there will be a free lunch. Everyone is welcome.
Monday, Dec. 9
Ring the Bells concert
The Lake Park-Audubon High School Music Department presents the 2013 holiday concert Ring the Bells with the senior and junior high choirs and pop group and soloists. The concert is at 1:45 and 7:30 p.m. in the LP-A High School gym. It is free admission.
DLMS Choir Concert
The DL Middle School Choir Concert begins at 6:30 p.m. in the George Simson Auditorium in the DL Middle School. There will be a split-format to the concert: 6th grade choir students will perform at 6:30 p.m., and the 7th & 8th grade choir students will perform at 7:30 p.m.
The Detroit Lakes High School staff and administration invite parents and students to conferences from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Progress reports for quarter 2 will be available as you enter the building at the main entrance. There will be refreshments. Also, there is a financial aid information session at 6:30pm at M State in room C101.

Grieving my way

Sons of Norway
Vikingland Lodge No. 495 hosts a potluck supper at 6 p.m. in Union Central, followed by the regular monthly meeting at 7 with the installation of officers. Everyone is to bring a generous dish to pass. Members are asked to wear their bunad or Norwegian sweater. The program will feature all of our own members — a narrative play with lots of singing. The public is invited to attend the meeting.
Lake Park Garden Club
The Lake Park Garden Club hosts a potluck Christmas party at 11:30 a.m. in the home of Peggy Stellach. Bring a food item or cash to be donated to the Becker County Food Pantry.

Advent mini concerts
First Lutheran Church, DL, host a mini concert featuring Kathryn (Knuttila) Karg and her husband Andy Karg. Musical performances are from noon to 12:30 p.m., followed by a soup and sandwich lunch. The public is invited to this free event.
Christian Women’s Club

David-Donehower Funeral Home hosts a Service of Remembrance at 6:30 p.m. to remember those how have died. Anyone who has lost a loved one, past or present, is invited.
Heart O’Lakes Genealogical Society meets and hosts its Christmas party at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Donations for Becker County Food Pantry will be collected. Anyone interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. There will be some time to research following the meeting.

Friendly Square dance
Park Rapids Friendly Squares host a square dance at Century School. Roger McNeil will be calling, and Bernette McNeil will cue rounds between tips. Plus dance is from 7:30-8 p.m., and mainstream is from 8-10. Club members will have potluck lunch after the dance. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.

DL area adaptive hockey
The Detroit Lakes Area Adaptive Hockey is a new team that spends time on the ice working towards being a part of Minnesota Special Hockey, and is open to any age and ability. Senior drive safety class

St. Mary’s EMS is hosting two classes. An EMT class is Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 26-April 10, from 6-10 p.m. in the St. Mary’s EMS building. Cost is $675. Preschool screening for 3-5 year olds for the Frazee-Vergas district is provided through Becker County Community Health Services. Call Annie at 218-847-5628 ext. 5419 to make an appointment. This one screening will provide your child the requirements for Early Childhood Screening. Minnesota law requires each child attend a health and developmental screening before kindergarten.
