Advent service

Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, invites you to join them for Advent Services on Wednesday evenings at 7:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

NARFE meeting

Detroit Lakes NARFE (National Active & Retired Federal Employees) Chapter 1842 meets at noon in the Ice Cutter Room at the Holiday Inn in Detroit Lakes. Guest speakers will be Amy Dallmann and Lois Greenig from Mahube-Otwa, who will speak on the programs available for seniors. All current and retired Federal employees and spouses are encouraged to attend.

Service of Remembrance

David-Donehower Funeral Home hosts a Service of Remembrance at 6:30 p.m. to remember those how have died. Anyone who has lost a loved one, past or present, is invited.

Genealogical society

Heart O’Lakes Genealogical Society meets and hosts its Christmas party at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Donations for Becker County Food Pantry will be collected. Anyone interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. There will be some time to research following the meeting.

BC Republicans

The Becker County Republican annual Christmas party will be held at 6 p.m. in the Speak Easy in Detroit Lakes.  Please RSVP to Bev at 218-844-6803 by Dec. 10 so the restaurant will know how many to plan for.

PEO Chapter FG

P.E.O Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Mary Nordmark, with Rachel Windloss and Cheryl Mollberg assisting. Program will be presented by Sue Boyle with a gift exchange following. Dessert will be served.

Ag Issues Forum

An Ag Issues Forum is at 8:30 a.m. in the Callaway Community Center. It is open to anyone interested in agriculture. Lunch will be served. RSVP to the Chamber Office at 218-847-9202.

Friday, Dec. 13

Friendly Square dance

Park Rapids Friendly Squares host a square dance at Century School. Roger McNeil will be calling, and Bernette McNeil will cue rounds between tips. Plus dance is from 7:30-8 p.m., and mainstream is from 8-10. Club members will have potluck lunch after the dance. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.

Lakes Area Music Teachers

Members of the Lakes Area Independent Music Teachers meet from 4 to 6 p.m. in the home of Marlys Douglas, 331 Elizabeth Street, Detroit Lakes. All area Independent Music Teachers are invited to attend. For information, or directions to the meeting, call 847-5188.

Eagles Christmas bake sale

The Eagles Auxiliary hosts a Christmas bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Eagles. Christmas cookies and goodies will be sold by the pound, with specialty Christmas items sold separately.  Come early for the best selection.

Woodcarvers

Area woodcarvers meet at 9 a.m. in the Washington Square Mall. Visitors are welcome to stop by and watch demonstrations and ask questions.

Candles & Carols

Trinity Lutheran Church hosts Candles & Carols “Love Came Down at Christmas” at 4:30 p.m. Under the warmth of candlelight (you get your own candle) join the Bell Choir and Choirs in singing the old, familiar carols and hear the poetry and stories of Christmas. It is free for everyone.

Christmas turkey dinner

Trinity Lutheran Church hosts a Christmas turkey dinner at 5:45 p.m. Cost for the dinner is $10 for adults, $8 for children 6-12 years old, and free for children 5 and under. For tickets and more information, call Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes at 847-7211.

Craft, bake sale

St. John’s Lutheran Church of Height of Land hosts a craft and bake sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Color Guard fundraiser

The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard fundraiser pancake and French toast breakfast is from 8 a.m. to noon in the DL Legion Club. Suggested donation is $6.50.

Monday, Dec. 16

Holiday Train

The Canadian Pacific’s Holiday Train will stop at the Holmes Street railroad crossing near Holmes Community Center at about 3:30 p.m. Please bring a donation for the Becker County Food Pantry.

PEO Chapter DQ

Chapter DQ, P.E.O. meets at 1 p.m. in the Congregational Church, DL. The hostess is Nancy Christiansen and assistant hostesses are Gail Grabow, Fran Johnson and Sue Portilla. The program will be presented by Mary Schutz and Nancy Christiansen.

Catholic Church bake sale

Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee, hosts a Christmas bake sale after the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Dec. 14, and on Sunday, Dec 15, after the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Everyone is welcome. Come and get your Christmas goodies.
