Sunday, Feb. 16

Rising Sun Dancers

The Rising Sun Dancers host a square dance from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. Roger McNeil will call the tips and Bernadette will cue rounds. Lunch furnished by the club. All spectators and dancers are always welcome.

Lake Region Veterans Color Guard

The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard fundraiser pancakes and French toast breakfast is from 8 a.m. to noon in the DL Legion Club. Suggested donation is $6.50.

Monday, Feb. 17

Curling club open house

The Detroit Lakes Curling Club hosts an open house from 7-9 p.m. It is a free event for the public to come check out curling, see what it’s about and give it a try.  There will be members from the club there to answer questions, give demonstrations and guidance. Equipment will be provided and there will also be hot dogs and brats available.

Lions Club

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Midwest Minn. Harness Club

The Midwest Minnesota Harness Club meets the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes American Legion.

Relay for Life kick-off

The American Cancer Society 2014 Relay for Life — which is June 20 — Kick-Off Event is at 6 p.m. in M State conference room. Community members, team captains, and team members interested in the 2014 Relay for Life of Becker County are invited and encouraged to attend. Country Twirlers

The Country Twirlers square dance is from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the IOOF Hall, DL. Larry Johansen is the caller.

Saturday, Feb. 22

Mimosa 4 Fibrosis

Mimosa 4 Fibrosis with a Twist of Whist fundraiser begins at 11 a.m. at Randy’s on Lake Eunice. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $20 a person and includes drinks, chili and chance at door prizes. For more info, call Tammy at 849-3404 or Rafty at 701-306-6555.

Movie night

Seventh-day Adventist Church, DL, hosts a movie night beginning at 7 p.m. in the school gym. Showing is “Thicker Than Water,” starring Melissa Gilbert, Brian Wimmer and Lindsay Wagner. There will also be free root beer floats and popcorn.

Rep. Green town halls

Rep. Steve Green holds town hall meetings at 11 a.m. in La Barista, Detroit Lakes; at 1 p.m. in Pappy’s Cafe & Pizzeria, Waubun; at 3 p.m. in Red Apple Café, Mahnomen.

Jaycee’s senior dinner

The DL Jaycees would like to invite area senior citizens to a meal beginning at 11 a.m. until the food is gone. This free-will event is in the Detroit Lakes Holy Rosary Church basement. There will be prizes and entertainment provided. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. You’re drivers are also welcome to stay and enjoy the meal. Showsnoe hike

Tamarac Refuge hosts a Wilderness Snowshoe Hike at 1 p.m. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. Join the North Country Trail Association and Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge for a 2 mile, 2 hour snowshoe adventure. Meet at Rainbow Resort, Waubun for a shuttle to the trailhead. Interested hikers may meet at Rainbow Resort for an optional casual lunch at 11:30. For more information, contact the refuge at 218-847-2641.

M State’s BES hosts a Lunch & Learn How to Patent your Idea on Feb. 27 from noon to 1 p.m. Cathy Lindquist, executive director for Small Business Development Centers, and Michael Neustel, patent attorney, will talk about patenting your ideas.
