Sunday, March 9

Pancake breakfast

The Callaway Lions host a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Callaway Community Center.

Hairball fundraiser

The Marshmallow Foundation   hosts its annual Hairball fundraiser from 4 to 8 pm. in Zorbaz. There will be silent and live auctions, a meat raffle, attendance prizes and more. There will be live music also. Tickets are $25 and include drink, chips and salsa and pizza buffet. For more info, call 847-9040.

Lakes Area Chorale concert

The Lakes Area Chorale concert is at 4 p.m. in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes. Some of the soloists are Scott Mehlaff, Erelne DeCock, Kendra Mohn, and Susan Champa.

Tamarac Refuge re-opening

Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge celebrates its grand re-opening with Going Green for Wildlife from noon to 4 p.m. Going Solar is at 2, presented by Jason Edens, Rural Renewable Energy Alliance & MN Renewable Energy Society; building tours:  Learn how we are drawing energy from the earth and the sun. On the half hour (12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30); movie theater presentation: “Climate Change: Wildlife and Wildlands” shown through the afternoon; gift shop sales:  Spend some green to support wildlife education and habitat projects.

Music scholarship concert

The Detroit Lakes Music Department showcases local talent in order to raise funds for a college music scholarship. The concert is at 7 p.m. in the DL Middle School Auditorium. Groups scheduled to perform are Doc & the Scrubs, Laker Singers & the Laker Jazz Band. Tickets are $5 per adult, $3 for children in grades 6-12, free for children grade 5 or younger or a family pack for $20 and can be purchased at the door. All proceeds go to a scholarship recipient(s).

PEO Chapter DQ

Chapter DQ, P.E.O. meets at 1 p.m. in the Congregational Church. Georgia Hecock is the hostess, with Kay Nulph, Joan Carr and Ruth Solie serving as co-hostesses. There will be installation of officers, and Ruth Solie will present the program, “Public Literary Art.”

Grieving my way

Grieving my Way, a support group for parents who have experienced the loss of a child of any age, meets the second Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Library. For more info, call Brenda at 846-9275.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Meatball dinner

DL Breakfast Rotary annual Swedish Meatball Dinner is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the M State cafeteria. Minimum donation is $6 for adults and $3 for children. To go meals are available. All proceeds go to the Becker County Food Pantry.

Sons of Norway

Vikingland Lodge No. 495, Detroit Lakes, meeting with a chili dump supper beings at 6 p.m. in Union Central. Everyone is to bring a small container of chili which will be dumped together into a roaster. The program is talented musicians Hank Reitan, Patty Ballard and John Martinson. They will be playing a variety of Scandinavian music and old time music. The public is welcome to come enjoy the evening with us.

Alzheimer-Dementia Support Group

Ecumen Detroit Lakes’ Alzheimer-Dementia Support Group meets at 2 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Public Library. Speaker is Tara Giese of Lutheran Social Services. BC Republicans

The Becker County Republicans meet at 7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes City Offices.

Genealogical society

Heart O’Lakes Genealogical Society holds its regular meeting on the second Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. This month we will have member Gerry Schram speak to our group about his Schram family. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. St. Patrick’s Dance

The Eagles Club hosts a St. Patrick’s Dance from 6:30 to 11 p.m. in the Eagles Club. There will be auction items with all proceeds matched dollar for dollar and going to the Becker County Food Pantry. There will be an Eagles Buffet starting at 2 p.m. and serving until gone. St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Hawley, hosts a March dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Adults are $10, ages 6-12 are $4 and preschool are free.

Fish fry

The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring Lenten Fish Fries on Fridays, March 7-April 11, from 5-7 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for those under 12. All proceeds return to the community.

Driver’s safety refresher

Two 4-hour refresher driver’s safety classes are March 11 and March 18 from 12:30-4:30 p.m.  in the United Community Bank, Perham. Cost is $13. To register, call Denise Lillis at 218-346-3336.

Battle of the Businesses Bowling Tournament

The DL Lions Club and Voyageur Lanes host Battle of the Businesses Bowling Tournament on March 22. Four-person teams bowl at 2, 4 or 6 p.m. Entry fee is $100. For more info, contact Brenda Wieland at 844-4221 ext. 112.

Art of Marriage seminar

The Seventh-day Adventist Church, DL, hosts “The Art of Marriage” seminar on March 14, from 6:30-9 p.m. and March 15-16 from 3-6 p.m. both days.
