Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

LP Garden Club

The Lake Park Garden Club meets at 1 p.m. in the new Ella Marie’s Cafe and Collectibles, located at 14989 County Road 4, just to the west of the Roadhouse on County Road 5 and near the public access to Lake Ida. Bok author speaking

The DL Library Club hosts DNR Communications Director Chris Niskanen who also wrote “Minnesota Book of Skills,” which was nominated for a Minnesota Book Award in 2013. He will be speaking the DL Library at 2 p.m.

Energy alternatives

Central Clean Energy Resource Team (Central CERT) hosts an energy alternative event from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Becker County Court House, Detroit Lakes, to learn about energy efficiency and heating alternatives, including solar thermal systems, biomass, and combined hot air/hot water solar thermal systems. Olympic medalist speaks

Henry Boucha, 1972 Olympic silver medalist with the USA hockey team will be speaking at the high school at 10 a.m. Niijii Radio (89.9 FM) will be broadcasting the speech. Boucha will then hold a book signing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in The Depot. The public is invited.

Friendly Squares dance

Park Rapids Friendly Squares hosts a square dance in Century School. Donna Stone will cue rounds from 7:30-8. Richard Miller will call mainstream from 8-10. Dance for Heart

The Northern Minnesota Square Dancers host a benefit dance for the American Heart Association from 2-5 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. There will be a silent auction during the dance. Holy Rosary Fish fry

The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring Lenten Fish Fries on Fridays, March 7-April 11, from 5-7 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for those under 12. All proceeds return to the community.

Frazee Fish fry

The Knights of Columbus Frazee Council 12581 annual Lenten fundraiser fish dinners are March 28 and April 11 from 5-7 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Adults are $8, kids (7-12) are $5 and 6 and under are free. Everyone is welcome.

Illusionist/magician performs

Come along with the Lake Park Audubon Community Ed for a night of Las Vegas style illusion and laughs. Jared Sherlock, an award-winning illusionist and comic magician, is coming to the Top Hat Theater in Ulen on Saturday, May 3. Fee is $20 for adults and $15 for students. Bus will leave LPA Elementary at 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 from Lake Park. Contact LPA Community Ed at 218-238-5914 ext. 2091 by March 21 to make your reservation.

Kindergarten roundup

Rossman and Roosevelt Elementary Schools, DL, host kindergarten roundup at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. on April 7. Each session is one hour and you may attend either. If your child is age-eligible for kindergarten and you have not received a registration packet, contact the school at 847-9271.

Bowhunter Archery Club

The Heart of Lakes Bowhunter Archery Club hosts the Minnesota State Target Archery Indoor Tournament April 4-6 in the DL hickey arena. ECLA Cluster 7 gathering

All women of the ELCA are invited to attend the Cluster 7 Spring gathering on Saturday, April 26, at NeeGonNee Lutheran Church, rural Mahnomen. Registration is $10 and will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m., followed by a program and a noon luncheon, which is included in the registration fee. A day of pampering

Single Mother, Widow, Military Wife? If you answered yes, Lakes Area Vineyard Church would like to offer you a 1/2 day of pampering on April 12 completely free with no strings attached. Services provided include facials, pedicures, manicures, massages, childcare, appetizers, valet parking, basic car maintenance and much more. Adrenals class

Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed hosts “It’s NOT my Imagination…It’s my Adrenals!” with instructor Amy Lundberg. You might be suffering from Adrenal Fatigue (Super Woman Syndrome) if you feel if you sat down to rest you would not be able to get back up again but you can’t fall asleep at night or stay asleep. Class is March 29 from 9–10:30 a.m. Class fee is $10.

Mosaic Garden Light

Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed hosts “Mosaic Garden Light” with instructor Becky Mitchell, The Glass Lady Studio. Class is March 29 from 10:30 a.m.–noon in the Glass Lady Studio, Lake Park. Class fee is $30.

Wagon Wheel Rug

Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed hosts “Wagon Wheel Rug” with instructor JoAnne Flom. This type of rug dates back to the early settlers. As they traveled across country the ladies used the 5th wheel on the carriage to make rugs for their new homes. In this class you’ll use hula hoops. Use your old jeans, t-shirts, bed sheets, towels or virtually any material to make a rug, chair pad or even coasters. Bring a sheet for the “spokes” and the material you will be using for weaving to class. Please bring a needle, thread and scissors to class also. Class is April 24 and May 1 from 6-8 p.m. Class fee is $15 and includes a hula hoop.

Cancer support group

Essentia Health St. Mary’s Cancer Support Group meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at 5 pm.  Please meet at the fireplace in the Clinic Lobby. The cancer support group is open to anyone who is affected by cancer — patients, survivors, family, friends or caregivers.  For additional information, contact Jennifer Frank at 218-847-0880.
