Mother’s Day dinner

The DL Knights of Columbus host a Mother’s Day ham and turkey dinner from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center. Adults are $9, ages 4-12 are $4 and under age 4 are free.

North Country Trail hike

North Country Trail Spring Series Hike No. 1 begins at 2 p.m. Hikers are to meet where the trail crosses Hwy 91, 15 miles north of Dorsett. The trailhead can also be reached from the north by taking Hwy 91 south from Hwy 200/71.  Hike to Nelson Lake, around the lake and around Lake 21, 7 miles.

PEO Chapter DQ

Chapter DQ, P.E.O. meets in the home of Dana Emery at 1 p.m.  Co-hostesses are Justine Boots, LaValle Andersen and Vicki Johnson. Dana will also present a program about her recent visit to China.

Alzheimers-Dementia group

The Alzheimers-Dementia Support Group meets at 2 p.m. in the DL Library. These meetings are open to the public. This month, Attorney Leah R. Gilbert of the Pluto Legal, PLLC, will present a free educational workshop on medical pre-planning. There is no charge for this workshop.

Women’s bridge association

Sons of Norway

Vikingland Lodge No. 495, Detroit Lakes, celebrates Syttende Mai - Norway’s Constitution Day at 7 p.m. in Union Central. All members are asked to wear their bunads or Norwegian sweaters. A foreign exchange student from Croatia will sing and tell about his country. There will also be special Norwegian goodies to taste like Rommegrot, fruit soup, fattimann, krumkake, sandbakkels, kransekake (wreath cake) and almond cake. Public is invited.

Freedom Resource Center

Freedom Resource Center hosts its third annual Appreciation Luncheon to recognize volunteers and award outstanding services from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Ramada Plaza Suites in Fargo. The event is open to the public with tickets available for purchase at $20.

Let’s Go Fishing training

M State graduation

Commencement ceremonies for students at Minnesota State Community and Technical College Detroit Lakes is at 7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes High School. The student speaker is Riana Kaul, who is graduating with an AAS degree in Civil Engineering Technology. The commencement address will be given by Dr. Eric Wilkins, an instructor in the Computer Network Security program and Phi Theta Kappa honor society advisor.

North Country Trail hike

North Country Trail Spring Series Hike No. 2 begins at 9 a.m. at the trail head on Hwy 4, two miles south of Lake George. The hike progresses west to Spider Lake Forest Road, a distance of 7.8 miles.

Laurentian hike

Join the Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail for a guided 5-mile nature hike in Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge from Blackbird Wildlife Drive to the 400th Ave. trailhead looking for wildflowers and other signs of spring. Bring your water and a snack. Long pants and sturdy foot gear are recommended. Meet at the 400th Ave. trailhead at 9 a.m. Shuttles will be provided to the start of the hike. ELCA Women’s Retreat

The ELCA Women’s Bible Retreat for Clusters 5, 6 and 7 will be held at the Holiday Inn in Detroit Lakes on June 2. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the retreat beginning at 9. The theme “Let There Be Peace” will feature Pastor Jillene Gallatin from Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes as the Bible Study leader. A musical presentation will be given by Tami Jensen of Immanual Lutheran Church near Osage. In the afternoon, inspirational speaker Kim Wagner will present. The closing session will include a communion service led by Pastor Hope Deutscher from Living Grace Lutheran Church in Hawley. Retreat concludes at 3. LP-A summer day camp

Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed offers Summer Day Camp with crafts, play outside or in the gym, go swimming, take field trips, and have special guests. Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre Play

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre is back this year to help put on “Peter Pan.” Youth ages 7-18 are invited to join Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed this summer for a trip to Neverland with a twist. Practice is Aug. 18-23, and auditions take place on the first day and everyone gets a part. Participants should bring a water bottle and snack each day to practice.
