M State graduation
Commencement ceremonies for students at Minnesota State Community and Technical College Detroit Lakes is at 7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes High School. The student speaker is Riana Kaul, who is graduating with an AAS degree in Civil Engineering Technology. The commencement address will be given by Dr. Eric Wilkins, an instructor in the Computer Network Security program and Phi Theta Kappa honor society advisor.

Join the Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail for a guided 5-mile nature hike in Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge from Blackbird Wildlife Drive to the 400th Ave. trailhead looking for wildflowers and other signs of spring. Bring your water and a snack. Long pants and sturdy foot gear are recommended. Meet at the 400th Ave. trailhead at 9 a.m. Shuttles will be provided to the start of the hike. Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge hosts the movie “Extraordinary Birds” at 2 p.m. in the visitor center. Stunning nature photography takes flight to capture the wondrous behavior of birds. Follow a falcon in a hunt for prey, a tiny hummingbird who commutes 5000 miles and an owl who makes its living in a barnyard. 50 minutes. Celebrate birds during this Festival of Birds weekend.
