Paws at the Zoo

Join the DL Library at 2 p.m. for Paws at the Zoo: All things Connected. The Minnesota Zoomobile is coming to the Detroit Lakes Library with some real live zoo animals. Using a variety of animals, props and activities, the Zoomobile naturalist will show the relationships that connect all life on earth.  

Wildlife Excursion

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Wildlife Excursion at 10 a.m. Explore the refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Tours will be offered every Thursday, June-August, at 10 a.m. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac Refuge. Meet at the Visitor Center.

Friday, June 6

Frolicking with frogs

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts Frolicking with Frogs from 8 to 10 p.m. Kick off your weekend with croaking frogs. Identify frogs by their calls while learning about their natural history and significance in the ecosystem. You may even get up close and personal with these wild critters. Bring a flashlight and boots or shoes you can get wet. Meet at the visitor center.

Salad luncheon

Holy Rosary Catholic Daughters host a Spring salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $7, and there will be raffles as well.

Saturday, June 7

Salad luncheon, bazaar

Zion Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake hosts a Salad Luncheon, Bazaar & Bake Sale with the Detroit Lakes Cloggers beginning at 10 a.m. There will be a freewill offering to Zion’s Intern Fund and local charities.

National Trail Day Hike, Tamarac

Join a North Country Trail volunteer for a 5-mile trek through Tamarac’s rich diversity of habitats. Meet at the 400th Ave. trailhead at 1 p.m. and carpool to starting point on Co. Hwy 26. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water, a snack and insect repellent.

National Trails Day Hike, Maplewood State Park

Maplewood State Park hosts various activities in honor of National Trails Day. It begins with refreshments at 9 a.m. at the trail center, followed by a 7.5 mile guided hike, Hiking 101, photo walk, picnic, guided family hike, history of the park, official grand opening  of the North Country National Scenic Trail within the park and more. Shoreham Chapel

Shoreham Chapel services begin June 8 at 10:45 a.m. each Sunday through Aug. 31. Rev. Tim Cook will be officiating. Katherine Noone, assistant music professor of voice from NDSU, will celebrate the chapel’s opening. Coffee and refreshments served after each service.

Detroit Lakes NARFE (Nation-al Active & Retired Federal Em-ployees) Chapter 1842 meets at noon in the Ice Cutter Room at the Holiday Inn in Detroit Lakes. District 6 Field Officer Carolyn Billing will be the special guest for the induction of officers and comments on the recent State Convention. All current and re-tired Federal employees and spouses are encouraged to attend.

DLHS Class of 1984 reunion

The Detroit Lakes Class of 1984 reunion is June 28, beginning with social hour at 6 p.m., with dinner to follow, at the Detroit Country Club. St. John’s, Vergas, VBS

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Vergas, holds VBS June 9-13 from 5 to 8 p.m. for children preschool to sixth grade. The theme is “Weird Animals,” which will focus on God’s weird animals and the challenges children are currently faced with every day. VBS will provide supper to children. Miss Northwest candidates

The Miss Northwest Pageant Committee is looking for Miss Northwest Outstanding Teen contestants ages 13-16 and Miss contestants ages 17-23. TeacHaiti founder speaks

Miquette Denie McMahon, founder of TeacHaiti, will be visiting Detroit Lakes to share her stories and pictures about the successes of the TeacHaiti scholarship project. She will be speaking June 11 at 3 p.m. in First Lutheran Church, DL. She will also speak June 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the annual fundraiser and Ice Cream Social in Trinity Lutheran Church, DL. Cost is $15 per person or $25 for two people. Lastly, she will speak June 15 at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. worship services and 9:30 a.m. fellowship in Cormorant Lutheran Church. Jewelry handcrafted by the TeacHaiti students available for purchase at all three speaking engagements.

LP-A summer day camp

Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed offers Summer Day Camp with crafts, play outside or in the gym, go swimming, take field trips, and have special guests. Breakfast and two healthy snacks are provided each day. Bring a bag lunch and water bottle for your child. Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre Play

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre is back this year to help put on “Peter Pan.” Youth ages 7-18 are invited to join Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed this summer for a trip to Neverland with a twist. Practice is Aug. 18-23, and auditions take place on the first day and everyone gets a part. Participants should bring a water bottle and snack each day to practice. Essentia Health St. Mary’s Cancer Support Group meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at 5 pm.  Please meet at the fireplace in the Clinic Lobby.
