Thursday, June 19

Senior Fest

Becker County Senior Network hosts Senior Fest from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Pavilion. Cost is $12. There will be provider booths, Outstanding Senior Recognition Program, educational speakers, music, pontoon rides, lunch, root beer floats and door prizes throughout the day. Camp Cherith open house

Come visit Camp Cherith from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. during an open house. Everyone is invited to come and try some of the activities, tour the campsite and make a dessert over the campfire. It’s an open house, so come for any or all — archery, horses, crafts, nature, outdoor cooking and more.

Wildlife Excursion

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Wildlife Excursion at 10 a.m. Explore the refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of the refuge on this two hour adventure. Meet at the visitor center.

Friday, June 20

Talk of the Town

Steve Stark will speak during “Talk of the Town” beginning at 9 a.m. in the Cormorant Community Center. Stark will be in costume and bring a unique history presentation to life in telling stories while actually drawing with skill and speed before your eyes on 20-30 feet of giant rolls of paper. Come and enjoy this free event. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Ecumen celebrates 50 years

Ecumen Detroit Lakes celebrates 50 years of service with a “A Dance to Remember” from 6 p.m. to midnight in the Detroit Lakes Pavilion. There will be a hog roast, music and dancing by The Shakers, a classic car show and beach volleyball.

Miss Northwest candidates

The Miss Northwest Pageant Committee is looking for Miss Northwest Outstanding Teen contestants ages 13-16 and Miss contestants ages 17-23. The pageant will be July 11, and application closing date is June 20. The Miss Northwest pageant is affiliated with the Miss America franchise. Long Lake Association meeting/picnic

The Long Lake Betterment Association annual meeting/picnic begins at 4 p.m. at Long Lake Park.

Photography workshop

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Photography Workshop and Safari from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Discover the fun and adventure of photographing wildlife, plant life and the ever changing scenes of nature at Tamarac. Bring your own camera and sack lunch. Get the inside scoop on  how to take a great picture including subject, composition, and light from members of  the Lakes Area Photography Club. Travel to some unique areas on the refuge. Meet at the visitor center.

Dan Kiser Jr. benefit

A benefit for MMA fighter Dan Kiser Jr. is all day at The Hub in Fargo. Meals include pancake feed from 8 to 11 a.m., chili cook-off from noon to 3 p.m. and spaghetti feed from 5 to 8 p.m. Entertainment includes live music and a comedy show. North America movie

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge presents the movie “North America Episode 1– Born to be Wild” at 2 p.m. Take an extraordinary journey through North America and meet the incredible array of exotic wildlife that lives in our backyard. Through epic cinematography and compelling storytelling, we experience their struggle for survival in this land of extremes.

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Sons of Norway

Sons of Norway sponsors a free will offering concert at 7 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with Trio Con Brio from Sweden performing with flute, English horn and piano. Refreshments will be served after the concert. Habitat for Humanity will be serving their meal in the Trinity Church parking lot instead of the park.  All are welcome to come to Trinity to eat.

Snow cones for Relay

The Detroit Lakes Women of Today are serving snow cones to raise money for the Becker County Relay for Life.  Snow cones are $1 and include a variety of flavors. Find them at the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center on June 19 from 6-8 p.m. and at the Becker County Relay for Life June 20 at the DL High School Track from 5-9 p.m. 

Tuesday in the Park

Habitat for Humanity serves burger, hot dogs and brats each Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. before the concerts. Funds will assist in providing affordable housing for needy families. Tuesdays in the Park concerts begin at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair. DLHS Class of 1984 reunion

The Detroit Lakes Class of 1984 reunion is June 28, beginning with social hour at 6 p.m., with dinner to follow, at the Detroit Country Club. Christian Fellowship VBS

Christian Fellowship Church, DL, hosts VBS June 23-27 from 9 a.m. to noon each day for ages 4-11. It is free and open to any children. There will be a special VBS awards program and barbecue lunch on June 29. The theme is “The Old Testament in Living Color, Time and Space.”

Grace Lutheran VBS

Grace Lutheran Church, DL, hosts vacation Bible school June 23-26 from 6 to 8:20 p.m. each day. Take a walk on the wild side with “Weird Animals.” Come for experiments, adventures and music.

Church auction, rummage

Cormorant Lutheran Church, Lake Park, hosts an auction and rummage sale. The rummage sale is June 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and June 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the auction begins June 28 at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served.

Plant, pest clinics

Ladies golf league

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre Play

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre is back this year to help put on “Peter Pan.” Youth ages 7-18 are invited to join Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed this summer for a trip to Neverland with a twist. Practice is Aug. 18-23, and auditions take place on the first day and everyone gets a part. Participants should bring a water bottle and snack each day to practice. Cancer support group

Essentia Health St. Mary’s Cancer Support Group meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at 5 pm.  Please meet at the fireplace in the Clinic Lobby.
