Parkinson’s Support Group

Wildlife Excursion

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Wildlife Excursion (offered every Thursday through August) at 10 a.m. Explore the refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of the refuge on this two hour adventure. Meet at the visitor center.

Taxpayers Association

The Becker County Taxpayers Association meets at 7 p.m. in the DL Library. There will be detailed presentation by the affected taxpayers of how county assessors manipulated field card averages from one taxpayer to another without benefit of surveys. Everyone is welcome.

Essentia Health Oak Crossing Family Council hosts its annual Party in the Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center. Enjoy food, raffles and music.

DL Friday Noon Group potluck

Detroit Lakes Friday Noon Group hosts a potluck dinner and open AA meeting beginning at 6 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church basement fellowship hall. There will be Alanon and AA speakers at 7.

Ugly truck/car contest

The Detroit Lakes Eagles Aerie 2342 host an ugly truck/car contest is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Washington Square Mall parking lot. Trophies awarded to Ugliest and People’s Choice. Entry fee is $15. Contact Ardean Anderson at 218-849-2704 for more info.

Woodland Amble

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Woodland Amble at 10 a.m. In this easy-paced walk, we will explore a variety of wildflowers, shrubs and trees along the North Country Trail. Let’s discover what is hidden on the forest floor and in the canopy layers. Field guides, hand lenses will be provided. Bring water, bug protection, cameras and curiosity for this two hour stroll. Meet at the 400th Ave. North Country Trail trailhead.

Sucker Creek Outlaws

Sucker Creek Outlaws hold their monthly match beginning with registration at noon, followed by a safety meeting at 12:45 p.m. and shoot at 1. Guests also welcome. Anyone welcome to come early and help set up is welcome, the gate will be open at 10 a.m.

Festival of Authors and Artists

Dorset’s annual Festival of Authors and Artists is from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Dorset. There will be juried art show outdoors and live music on the boardwalk. Sister Wolf Books will have authors signing their books, and Brian Freeman will give a reading at 1:30 and Julie Kramer at 3:45. Lund Lutheran Church hosts an outdoor service at 9 a.m. The church is 9 miles north on Richwood Road.

Floyd Shores fishing contest

The annual Floyd Shores Family Fun Fishing Contest is free to all association members and their families. Fishing may start at 12 a.m., and fish will be weighed between 3 and 4 p.m. at Pete Mathison’s house. There will be four age divisions, and awards will be presented after the weigh-in. Plants movie

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge presents the movie “What Plants Talk About” at 2 p.m. Plants are actively communicating with the environment every day, responding to nutrients, predators, and herbivores that are around them. This film shows that plants are smarter than we thought. Stay to learn about the invasive plants of the refuge and how we are trying to outsmart them.

Lake Park Historical Society open house

The Lake Park Area Historical Society Old Schoolhouse open house is from 1-3 p.m. Come to see the newly renovated Old Country Schoolhouse in Lake Park (located to the east of the American Legion building). There will be cookies, coffee and lemonade served. Photo displays and information about the Lake Park Area Historical Society’s new website and activities.

Birding Club

The Lakes Area Birding Club meets at 7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Public Library. Come and meet the new Detroit Lakes Area Wildlife Supervisor Rob Baden.  Guests are welcome.

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Beach party for dads

Partners In Parenting and Young Lives sponsor a free Beach Party for all young moms and dads ages 22 and under. It is from 3 to 7 p.m. at SOL on the beach. Cost is free. Come for grilled picnic foods, music, pontoon rides, paddle boarding, a bouncy house, childcare and more.

‘Magic Tree House’ project

The Detroit Lakes Library hosts Paws in the “Magic Tree House” at 2 p.m. When, where, and with whom has the Magic Tree House landed? With “Lions at Lunchtime”? or “Tigers at Twilight”? or “Dogs in the Dead of Night”? We will make tree house replicas and decorate them to match a Magic Tree House book destination.

Clothing drive

The DAV and Lakes Area Color Guard are collecting donated clothing June 23-27 at the trailer near the former Sinclair Station across from Central Market. They are asking for gently used clothing and small appliances and no furniture, beds or large appliances. Proceeds from the collected and sold clothing will be spent on local veterans programs.

Cormorant Lutheran Auction

The 20th annual Cormorant Lutheran Auction sale begins at 10 a.m. The rummage sale will be June 27 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and June 28 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Both will be held on the church grounds. Cormorant Lutheran is located at 14314 Co. Hwy 4, Lake Park.

Crafters welcome

Crafters, cardmakers and scrapbookers are invited to meet every Tuesday throughout the summer from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Senior Citizens Center, located in the DLCCC. Tuesday in the Park

Habitat for Humanity serves burger, hot dogs and brats each Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. before the concerts. Funds will assist in providing affordable housing for needy families. DLHS Class of 1984 reunion

The Detroit Lakes Class of 1984 reunion is June 28, beginning with social hour at 6 p.m., with dinner to follow, at the Detroit Country Club. Christian Fellowship VBS

Christian Fellowship Church, DL, hosts VBS June 23-27 from 9 a.m. to noon each day for ages 4-11. It is free and open to any children. There will be a special VBS awards program and barbecue lunch on June 29. The theme is “The Old Testament in Living Color, Time and Space.”

Grace Lutheran VBS

Grace Lutheran Church, DL, hosts vacation Bible school June 23-26 from 6 to 8:20 p.m. each day. Take a walk on the wild side with “Weird Animals.” Come for experiments, adventures and music.

Church auction, rummage

Cormorant Lutheran Church, Lake Park, hosts an auction and rummage sale. The rummage sale is June 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and June 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the auction begins June 28 at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served.

Plant, pest clinics

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre Play

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre is back this year to help put on “Peter Pan.” Youth ages 7-18 are invited to join Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed this summer for a trip to Neverland with a twist. Practice is Aug. 18-23, and auditions take place on the first day and everyone gets a part. Participants should bring a water bottle and snack each day to practice. Cancer support group

Essentia Health St. Mary’s Cancer Support Group meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at 5 pm.  Please meet at the fireplace in the Clinic Lobby.
