Thursday, July 3

‘Magic Tree House’ project

The Detroit Lakes Library hosts Paws in the “Magic Tree House” at 2 p.m. When, where, and with whom has the Magic Tree House landed? With “Lions at Lunchtime”? or “Tigers at Twilight”? or “Dogs in the Dead of Night”? We will make tree house replicas and decorate them to match a Magic Tree House book destination.

Wildlife Excursion

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Wildlife Excursion at 10 a.m. Explore the refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of the refuge on this two hour adventure. Meet at the visitor center.

Friday, July 4

Long Lake Boat Parade

The Long Lake Boat Parade is at 3 p.m., beginning at the public access. The parade travels north around the lake.

Lake Eunice Boat Parade

Lake Eunice Fourth of July Boat Parade is at 11 a.m. Meet in the middle of the lake. 

Big Floyd Lake Boat Parade

Big Floyd Lake Boat Parade begins at 2 p.m. There will be secret judges around the lake with prizes awarded.

Lake Melissa/Sallie Boat Parade

The Lake Melissa/Sallie Association’s Fourth of July boat parades are at 10:30 a.m. Lake Melissa boats meet at Shoreham/Chanel. Lake Sallie boats meet at Maloney/Michaelson residence. Both proceed clockwise around the lakes. Traveling trophies will be awarded.

Sunday, July 6

Legion Auxiliary breakfast

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 hosts a pancake/French toast breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.in the DL Legion. A suggested donation of $6.50.

Frazee fire department pancake feed

The Frazee Volunteer Fire Department hosts a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fire hall. It is a freewill donation.

Holy Rosary pancake feed

The Knights of Columbus sponsors a pancake/French toast and sausage breakfast from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center.

Kids Day at the Range

Kids Day at the Range, sponsored by the Osage Sportsmens Club, is from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.  Try your hand at rifle, shotgun and archery against a variety of targets. There will be a black powder demonstration. Tamarac movie

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge presents the movie ‘North America; Episode 2: No Place to Hide’ at 2 p.m. A world of extreme storms and unpredictable blizzards, this land tests all those who set foot on it. From bunker building prairie dogs to the fastest land animals on the continent, the fight to survive shapes all who dare call this place home.

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Sons of Norway

Sons of Norway, Vikingland Lodge No. 495, DL, meets at 4:30 p.m. in the DL City Park for pontoon rides, followed by Habitat for Humanity meal at 6 p.m., potluck dessert at 6:30 (members are to bring a dessert to share) and a brief meeting after dessert. Enjoy the Tuesday’s in the Park concert at 7 p.m. in the bandshell. Bring a chair.

NARFE potluck

Detroit Lakes NARFE (National Active & Retired Federal Employees) Chapter 1842 holds their annual potluck picnic at noon at Dunton Locks County Park in Detroit Lakes. There will be no business meeting. Brats, buns and sodas are provided by the Chapter. All current and retired Federal employees and spouses are encouraged to attend. Christian Women’s Club

The Detroit Lakes Christian Women’s Club presents “Let Freedom Ring” from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Holiday Inn. Lunch cost is $9.25. Make reservations by July 7 to Norma at 846-1977 or Ruth at 847-5507.

Church bake sale

Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee, hosts a holiday bake sale on July 5 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and on July 6 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. All proceeds are for the repair of the steeple and our beautiful stained glass windows. Everyone is welcome.

Garden Club bus trip

Join the Lake Region Garden Club on an all-day bus trip to Dakota Sun Gardens & Winery in Carrington, N.D., on July 12. Several interesting stops are planned for the day. Cost is $46 with lunch or $35 without. Please contact Janis Schram at 847-6837 by July 7 to sign up. Bring your friends.

Red Cross swimming lessons

Red Cross certified instructor Nancy Jacobson offers Red Cross swimming lessons July 7-11 and 14-18 at the Vergas City Beach on Long Lake. Registration is at 9 a.m. on July 7 at the Vergas Community Center. Lessons will follow registration that same day. Cost is $35 per child. Private lessons are available upon request. Crafters welcome

Crafters, cardmakers and scrapbookers are invited to meet every Tuesday throughout the summer from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Senior Citizens Center, located in the DLCCC. Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity serves burger, hot dogs and brats each Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. before the concerts. Funds will assist in providing affordable housing for needy families. Tuesdays in the Park concerts begin at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair. Jasper’s Theater celebrates 10 seasons

Jasper’s Theater, Park Rapids, is celebrating its’ 10th season of bringing its’ own unique brand of family entertainment to this region.   The theater provides a 2-hour music, magic, comedy and dance variety show featuring four generations of one family, as well as some of the finest entertainers in the region.
