Shoreham Chapel
The Historic Shoreham Chapel, located across from the Hotel Shoreham, starts at 10:45 a.m. each Sunday. Music is by Doves of Peace. The Rev. Tim Cook will be officiating.
Atlanta Church Reunion Worship
“Come Home to Atlanta” worship service, rural Ulen, is at noon with Pr. Jill Steichen leading communion worship. A short business meeting is at 11:30 a.m. for those interested. A fellowship potluck dinner follows worship. Tableware and beverages will be provided. Please bring a dish to pass if you are able. This year, Atlanta Church is 136 years old.
Cal Miller Memorial Bike Race
The 19th annual Cal Miller Memorial Bike Race begins at 9 a.m. The 36-mile USA Cycling-certified race will begin at the Zorbaz located 1.5 miles north of Perham on Hwy. 51. Proceeds from the race will go to Missy Erickson, Alexandria, who is currently training to ride in the 2016 Olympics. Bugs and Creepy Crawlers
Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts Bugs and Creepy Crawlers: Adventures in Insect Sweeping at 2 p.m. Insects are part of a healthy ecosystem on the refuge. We’ll explore their habitat as we work the meadows with sweep nets. After collecting, we’ll view these critters up close with magnifiers and identify a few species. Meet at the visitor center for this family fun adventure.
Color Guard breakfast
The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard hosts a pancake/French toast fundraiser breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon in the DL Legion Club. Donation of $6.50 would be appreciated.
Monday, Aug. 18
Bikeable Community Workshop
A free “Bikeable Communities Workshop” is held at the Detroit Lakes City Hall and is designed for professionals who affect and impact planning and implementing facilities for bicycling in communities. The Workshop starts at 9 a.m. and includes a free healthy lunch and a bicycle ride. Bring your own bicycle and helmet. Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.
Midwest Minn. Harness Club
The Midwest Minnesota Harness Club meets the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes American Legion.
Bridge Tournament

Frazee Old-Time Dance
Come to the White Pine Room in Frazee for an old-time dance from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $5 per person, and music will be provided by Albert Mikesh. There will also be a potluck supper hosted after the dance.
‘Make the Lake’ Run
The Detroit Lakes cross country team hosts the annual “Make the Lake” running event, beginning at 9 a.m. near the Pavilion. Cross country runners will make a loop around Big and Little Detroit Lakes. All are invited to run, and the event is free of charge.
Women’s Bowling Association

League of Women Voters
The Detroit Lakes Area League of Women Voters meets at 5:01 p.m. in La Barista. Topics include primary election candidate forum, planning general election forums, workshops, program planning on human trafficking. The meetings are open to the public and all are welcome.

Wildlife Excursion
Explore the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of the refuge on this two hour adventure. Meet at the Visitor’s Center at 10 a.m.
Plant Swap
The Lake Region Garden Club is hosting a perennial plant swap from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes City Park. They ask participants to bring perennial plants from their gardens, labeled with name, variety and other helpful information on care. Event is first come, first serve.

Pork roast
St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Audubon, hosts its annual pork roast is from 4-7 p.m. It is a freewill offering.

Outdoor service
Lund Lutheran Church hosts an outdoor service at 9 a.m. The church is 9 miles north on Richwood Road.

Seth O’Neill fundaiser
Seth O’Neill, DL, will be going on The World Race, serving 11 countries in 11 months on a mission trip. A going away celebration and fundraiser for his trip is from noon to 3 p.m. in the DL Pavilion. St. Theodore’s Spaghetti Dinner
St. Theodore’s Church in Ponsford is hosting their annual spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adults and kids over 10 can enjoy the meal for $8, under 10 is $4 and under 6 is free. Rotary peach sale
The Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary annual peach sale is Aug. 27-28 from 10 a.m.–7 p.m. (while supplies last) in the Boys and Girls Club Thrift Store and Kmart parking lots. Cost is $32 a lug and $20 a half lug.
Senior Driver Safety class
