Alzheimer's Support Group
St. Mary's Alzheimer's and Dementia Support Group meets on the last Thursday of each month from noon-1:30 p.m. in the Winchester on Washington, Second Floor. Lunch will be served. For information about memory loss or to RSVP, please contact Karin Fritz-Staley, LSW at (218) 844-8376.
Read with a dog
R.E.A.D (Reading Assistance Education Dogs) to a certified therapy dog from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Detroit Lakes Library. This event takes place the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Read with the dog 10 times for a free book. Pre-registration is not required but you may call ahead (847-2168) to reserve a 10 minute session with the therapy dog.
BC Republican convention
The Becker County Republicans annual convention is at 6:30 p.m. in the new Jury Assembly Room, 3rd floor at the Becker County Court House. For more information, contact Tracy at 218-820-1299. Anyone interested is welcome.
Want to research your family history? Aren't sure where to start? Come to Beginning Genealogy from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in DL Library. Explore ways to find information beyond births, deaths and marriages. Discover genealogical databases found on the Library's Web site as well as other online sources of information using a laptop computer. The class is free, but space is limited. ULTRA Snowmobile Club
ULTRA Snowmobile Club holds its last general membership meeting of the season at 7 p.m. in the American Legion Club. Voting for officers and board members will take place during this meeting.

Dewey benefit supper
A pancake supper with separate bake sale to benefit Mahnomen Deputy Christopher Dewey is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Mahnomen High School cafeteria.
The sixth annual Sharing the Tradition of Storytelling event is at 7 in the Frazee Event Center. Participants include storytellers Patricia Nunn, Michael Cotter, JoAnne Lower and John Peterson. Refreshments will be served. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Come in to Detroit Lakes Library from 10 a.m. to noon to get a taste of what the Internet has to offer scrapbooking enthusiasts. Basic computer and mouse skills are needed. Class size is limited, so call the library to pre-register at 847-2168.

A retirement open house for Mark Greenig is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lincoln Education Center.

The public is invited to the first quarter Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail Association meeting at the DL Library. The DL VFW hosts Guitars for Veterans from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. It is a good-will donation with proceeds being distributed to the club's charities. Everyone is welcome.

Lakes Area Birding Club
The Lakes Area Birding Club meets at 5 p.m. in the DL Library. It is a potluck dinner; bring a dish to share and your own table setting. The program is Greg Hoch from Hamden Slough NWR Study. Everyone is invited to attend.
DL kindergarten registration
Detroit Lakes kindergarten registration for the 200-910 year is at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. n the Rossman and Roosevelt elementary schools. Each session is one hour and parents can attend either session. For more info, call 847-9271.
José Cole Circus
The Knights of Columbus presents the José Cole Circus at 7 p.m. in the Kent Freeman Arena, DL. Ticket prices are $9 for adults, $7 for children ages 12-3 and under 2 are free with paid adult and are available at Central Market, North Shore Travel Plaza and Orton's Tesaro in Audubon and also at the door.
State Forest History Center open house
Anyone interested in educational programs at the Minnesota Historical Society's Forest History Center, Grand Rapids, is invited to a free open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Naturalists and historical interpreters will be on hand to answer questions about forest adventures programs and lodging camp tours. Shedding Pounds for Shelter
The Humane Society of the Lakes fund-raiser, Shedding Pounds for the Shelter, begins today. The 8-week weight loss fitness challenge includes prizes. Lenten services are Wednesdays, March 25 and April 1 in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Detroit Lakes. Everyone is invited to come. At 5:45 p.m. is a soup and sandwich supper, followed by Lenten studies about Baptism at 6:30 and Taize worship is at 7:10 p.m.
LP-A Early Childhood screening
The Lake Park Audubon District will hold Early Childhood Screening April 6-8 by appointment in the LPA Elementary. Children who were 3 by Sept. 1, 2008, are eligible for screening. A packet will be sent out to those on our list. If your child is eligible for screening and you do not receive a letter by April 1, call 439-3889 for information. Minnesota law requires all Minnesota children must complete Early Childhood Screening prior to kindergarten entrance.
Community Alliance Church Preschool is now taking applications for the 2009-10 school year for children between the ages of 3 and 5. If you are interested, stop by or call 847-2266 for more information.
Food program workshop
Stacey Wixo, area coordinator for Providers Choice, presents a workshop April 2 on Cent$ible Meals. It is free and open to the public, however seating is limited so pre-register. The workshop is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church, DL.
