Taxpayers Association

The Becker County Taxpayers Association meets at 7 p.m. in the DL Library. The agenda will include review of legislative activities and assessor practices. Possible omission of several homes. Everyone is welcome.

Friday, May 25

Steak fry

American Legion Post 15 1st Zinger Squadron hosts a steak fry beginning at 5 p.m. until it's gone. Cost is $8.50.

Talk of the Town

Talk of the Town begins at 9 a.m. in the Cormorant Community Center. The program is Russ and Susan Freeman, former U.S. Ambassador to Belize. The event is free, and coffee and cookies will be available.

Avenue of Flags

The flag raising for the Avenue of Flags is at 1 p.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery, DL. The flags will fly throughout the Memorial Day weekend.

Plant sale

U of MN Extension Master Gardeners' plant sale is from 8 to 11 a.m. or until sold out. It is north of the Pavilion in the City Park.

Lake Ida Cemetery meeting

The Lake Ida Cemetery meeting is at 1 p.m. at the cemetery grounds.

Farmers Market

The Detroit Lakes Farmers Market opens at 10 a.m. in the Boys & Girls Club Thrift Store parking lot. It will be open Tuesdays from 3-6:30 p.m. Contact info: 218-334-5307.

Pancake breakfast

The Elbow-Tulaby Lakes Fire Department hosts a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m.-noon in the Fire Hall on Hwy. 113, about 17 miles east of Waubun. Cost is $5 for adults, $1 for children 2-6 and free for children under 2.

Overeaters Anonymous meets from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. in Emmanuel Nursing Home.

MN Finnish Society pancake feed

The Wolf Lake Chapter of the Minnesota Finnish American Historical Society hosts its 26th annual pancake breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wolf Lake Lions Hall. A free will donation will help fund scholarships to Salolampi, the Finnish language camp at Concordia Language Villages. Everyone is welcome.

Overeaters Anonymous, Serenity Group

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Bridge Association

The Detroit Country Club Women's Bridge Association meets at 11:30 a.m. Make reservations by noon on May 28 by calling Audrey Markuson at 846-0293 or Pat Staples at 847-7576. The third hostess will be Sally Larson.


Catholic church bake sale

Frazee Sacred Heart Catholic Church hosts a parish bake sale after the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, June 2, and after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, June 3. Also, the Sacred Heart Stitchers will have stitched items, such as aprons, casserole carriers, blankets, etc. for sale. All proceeds will go towards furnishings for the new addition.

Miss Northwest contestants

The Miss Northwest Scholarship Pageant is seeking contestants for the pageant, which will be held July 13. Contestants must be age 17-23 and a U.S. citizen. We are also seeking contestants for our new Miss Northwest Teen and must be age 13-16. For more information or to sign up, contact Cindy Moore at 334-2321. The deadline is June 17.
