Zinger pancake breakfast

The DL American Legion Post 15 hosts the First Zinger Squadron breakfast fundraiser buffet from 8 a.m. to noon. Cost is $7.

Tamarac History Tour

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a history tour at 2 p.m. Take a journey into Tamarac's past. Before the refuge was established, the landscape was extensively settled. Who were these folks? Where did they live and how did they survive in the wilderness? Caravan tour to several sites. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area located on County Hwy 26, 3 miles east of the Visitor Center.

Sunday, Aug. 5

Adult Spanish Club

On the 5th of each month, join the adult Spanish Club at El Loro to practice your conversation skills. Drinks are at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.

Knights pancake breakfast

The Knights of Columbus sponsor a pancake/French toast and sausage breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center, DL.

Mahnomen 4-H dog show

Mahnomen County 4-H hosts an open dog show at the Mahnomen County Fairgrounds. Registration starts at 1 p.m., with the show at approximately 2, following the 4-H Agility Show. The open show will include Obedience, Showmanship and Agility. Class fees are $5 per dog (may exhibit more than one dog). All dogs must have an up to date shot verification record from a veterinarian. Dogs should be at least 6 months old. Treasure of Trumpeters

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts A Treasure of Trumpeters at 2 p.m. Learn how this bird was nearly decimated and how Tamarac played a key role in its recovery. We'll travel out on the refuge in search of these majestic birds. Meet at the Balsam Lake Overlook on County Hwy 26.

Public school online

MTS Minnesota Connections Academy invites prospective parents and students to learn about its tuition-free K-12 online public school program. It is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Holiday Inn. What is it like to attend public school online, how do kids socialize, how do students interact with their teachers?

Overeaters Anonymous,

Serenity Group

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

High Mileage Club

High Mileage Club meets the first Tuesday of each month in Community Alliance Church, DL. There is a pot-blessing meal at noon, followed by a time of sharing birthdays and anniversaries, a Bible Nugget and special music. This is an inter-denominational fellowship for all those 55 and over.

Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity provides a picnic in the DL City Park from 6 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday in July and August. Come and have hamburgers, brats and hotdogs along with beans, potato salad and beverage. Free will offering benefits Habitat for Humanity and the Holmes Community Theater. A concert follows at 7 p.m. featuring Purple Pan Steel Drum Band in the Bandshell. Bring your lawn chairs for the concert.

Used book sale

Becker County Friends of the Library used book sale is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Public Library. All the books, DVDs and audiobooks for sale are donated. Proceeds of the sale support free programs at the Library for people of all ages.

Car show

A car show featuring 412 Lakes Chapter AACA is from 1-3:30 p.m. in the Emmanuel Nursing Home parking lot.

Alumni wine, cheese social

An alumni wine and cheese social is 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Emmanuel Nursing Home. Post Acute Care alumni and those interested learning more about post acute care are invited. For more information, contact Sue Sorensen at 218-847-4486.

Aquatic invasive species

volunteer training

A DNR training session for people interested in being volunteer watercraft inspectors at public boat accesses on lakes is from 5 to 8 p.m. in Holiday Inn. The training is good for both this year and next year. Admission is free, but RSVP to Moriya Rufer at ais@rmbel.info; 218-846-1465.

NARFE meeting

Bishop to visit

Herbert Chilstrom, first presiding bishop of the ELCA, is visiting Trinity Lutheran Church, DL, at 7:30 p.m. for a book signing. He will have his book "A Journey of Grace" and his daily devotional book "Every Morning New" will be available at the event.

MAC NAPS

The MAC-NAPS distribution is from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

BC Republicans

The Becker County Republicans meets at 7 p.m. in the DL Public Library.

North Country trail hike

For a North Country Trail hike, meet at 10 a.m. at the public access on Waboose Lake north of Nevis. The public access is accessed from Inner Forest Road. The hike is approximately 3 miles in the Paul Bunyan State Forest.

Genealogical society

Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Anyone interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. PEO Chapter FG

P.E.O. Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Claire Wilson, with Nancy Kramer assisting. The program will be presented by Elaine Graf. Dessert will be served.
