Harold John Schurmann was born to John and Pauline (Boeckman) Schurmann on February 11, 1934 in Dupree, S.D. They lived on a farm near Eagle Butte, S.D. Harold went to a little country school near their home. In 1946 the family moved to a dairy farm near New Germany, Minn. Harold attended the 7th and 8th grade in Winsted, Minn., at the Catholic parochial school.

In 1955 Harold joined the Army and served in Germany for 15 months. His high school diploma was achieved in Germany while in the service.

In 1957 he married Betty Hausladen and of this union three children were born: Bruce, Brian and Barbara. Unfortunately Barbara passed away after only 12 hours. About a year later, baby daughter Brenda was adopted. After 20 years Harold and Betty divorced and Harold married Luella Skogen in 1978.

Harold's careers consisted of working for Millerbernd Manufacturing and Sterner Industries, each for five years. During this time he attended Dunwoody Institute to earn Welding and Machine Shop Certifications. From there he went to Minneapolis to work for Industrial Metal Products, which became Elanco and then Accraply. Harold spent 28 years working there as a machinist, and also in purchasing, until 1995, when he retired to his lake place in Park Rapids.

Harold and Lu became snow birds and winter Texans from 1997 to 2002. In June 2002 they moved to Frazee. Luella passed away in January 2009.

Harold was fortunate enough to meet the love of his life in 2010 and married Patricia (Gibson) Schurmann, February 26, 2011. We all fell in love following their fairytale love for each other. They loved to dance, travel, and just be with each other.

Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and dancing. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Surviving Harold are his wife Patricia; two sons, Bruce Schurmann of Hudson, Wis., and Brian Schurmann of St. Michael; one daughter, Brenda (Gary) Miller of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Theresa (Bob) Linder of Hudson, Wis., Travis Schurmann of Norwood-Young America and Kaitlyn Schurmann of Andover, Minn.; two great grandchildren, Addison and Reagan Linder; one brother, Robert Schurmann of New Germany; and two sisters, Alice Hausladen of New Germany and Geraldine (Glenn) Pysick of Watertown, Minn.

Also surviving him are Pat's children, Shane (Bev) Gibson of Fargo, Maria (Arlen) Klamm of Sioux Falls, S.D., Troy (Jill) Gibson of Byron, Minn., and Laura (Jeremy) Williams of Thief River Falls; as well as 13 step-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife Luella; infant daughter Barbara; sister Lucille; brother Lawrence; and his parents.

A mass of Christian burial is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee.
