Hawley has explosive second half against Pelican Rapids
A stifling defense and explosive offense on Hawley’s side of the ball was too much for the Pelican Rapids, as they fell to the Nuggets 56-17 Friday.
After Hawley scored on their opening possession of the game, the Vikings answered with another big play from running back Ryan Bruggeman, who rushed for 310 yards last week.
Bruggeman returned the kickoff for a touchdown and with the extra point, the game was tied 7-7.
After falling behind 20-7 and facing a fourth down with time running out in the first half, Pelican Rapids went for a field goal.
After trading third quarter touchdowns, the Nuggets wore down Pelican Rapids and pulled away for the win.
“A real turning point occurred about half way through the third quarter when the Vikings had gotten to the Hawley 5 yard line and turned the ball over on a fumble,” Haugen said. The Nuggets drove 95 yards for a TD and continued to pull away from that point.
