The Hawley Nuggets opened the season in dominating fashion and by the looks of it, there maybe a lot more of it coming this season.

The Nuggets rolled over the visiting Mahnomen Indians in the season opener Friday 49-0, as Hawley's two-headed monster of junior Kevin Olson and senior Nathan Mattson racked up a total of 231 yards of rushing.

"Hawley was simply too big and too fast for us," said Mahnomen head coach John Clark. "They have one of the best offenses I've seen. We couldn't stop them."

Olson opened up the scoring with a 22-yard TD run with 10:14 remaining in the first quarter.

Hawley added two more touchdowns in the first frame, on a Tanner Schultz 38-yard run and Olson's 63-yard scamper.

The points kept flowing in, with Mattson finding the end zone for 10 yards out and quarterback Taylor Harms added a 36-yard scoring rush for the 35-0 halftime lead.

The Nuggets passed the ball just three times, with Harms throwing one pick and completing none, but Hawley did rush the ball for a lofty 387 yards.

Mahnomen ran for 165 yards, led by Dylan Steven's 61.

"Offensively, we moved the ball, but hurt ourselves with fumbles (two lost) and penalties (four for 20 yards)," Clark said. "Better practice is needed to correct the mistakes."

Olson finished with a game-high 125 yards on six carries for an average of 20.8 yards per carry, while Mattson had 106 yards on seven attempts for a 15.1-yard average.

Schultz had an 11.3 average, with seven carries for 79 yards.
