It was one poison or the other for the Bemidji Lumberjacks' defense, as each of Detroit Lakes' seniors Joe Mollberg and Brian Labat teamed up to douse the home team 65-64 Tuesday evening.

Early on, it was Mollberg's quick 10 points which put the Lumberjacks back on their heels, and after a few adjustments to stop the DL guard, Labat took over in the middle with an effective inside presence to seal the win.

Labat finished with 23 points and Mollberg 19, as the Lakers improved to 15-5 and re-entered the race for the North's top seed in Section 8-3A, as Fergus Falls fell to Moorhead.

"Bemidji couldn't stop Brian Labat," said DL head coach Robb Flint. "He actually had more success on the perimeter and also passed the ball very well with six assists."

The Lumberjacks started the game by throwing a full-court press on the Lakers, but after a few series of easy layups by DL, Bemidji had to switch up their strategy.

Mollberg put the Lakers on top early with 10 points in the early minutes of the game, then hit a couple of clutch shots down the stretch to hold the lead.

DL also was strong from the free throw line, going 14-20, including Labat's 9-12 from the stripe.

Junior point guard Kirk McLeod also did a nice job containing Bemidji guard Carey Woods, who ended up with 18 points, including a three at the buzzer to end the game.
