Help for the hungry
For those looking to make a contribution towards addressing the problem of hunger in the local area, an opportunity to make twice the impact is coming up.
Financial donations made to the Becker County Food Pantry over the month of July will be matched dollar for dollar by Hunger Solutions Minnesota during the 2013 “Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Food Shelf Challenge.”
The foundation is providing up to $150,000 in matching funds, $50,000 more than last year. Each local food pantry must raise a minimum of $250 to be eligible, and money will be matched up to $5,000.
Donations can be sent directly to the Becker County Food Pantry on Rossman Avenue, or contact Jack Berenz for more information at 218-846-0142.
The number of people served by the Food Pantry more than doubled from 2007 to 2012 — from 7,432 people in 2007 to 15,607 people last year, Berenz said.
