High-flying Cards sink Laker boys
A potent Staples-Motley offense was too much for the Detroit Lakes boys' basketball team to handle in an 81-66 defeat of the Lakers Tuesday.
The Cardinals (10-1) scored from all over the floor, including 20 field goals and 11 three pointers in the victory.
DL maintained with S-M in the first half, trailing just 41-34 at halftime, but the Cardinals had too much firepower in the second for the Lakers to stay with them.
Trevor Wentworth exploded for 13 points in the second half to lead all scorers with 20, while Jordan Riewer netted 19 and Jordan Peterson 12 -- all on four three pointers.
The Lakers were able to counter with Brian Labat's career-high 19 points, with 15 of those coming in the second half, while Josh Stalberger went for 14.
Rick Hutchinson also contributed 12 points.
The Lakers (5-6) were led by Joe Mollberg in rebounding with nine, while Labat boarded eight and Hutchinson seven.
DL will host Fergus Falls (2-7) Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m.
