Higher-wage actions in Minnesota this week

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. -- A Monday morning strike at a Brooklyn Center Walmart store began a week of wage protests.

Some Walmart employees walked off the job Monday morning, joined by U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn.

"I'm going on strike because when I speak up about the problems at Walmart, management retaliates against me and my fellow associates," Walmart employee April Williams said. “I am standing up because I know I’m not alone in this fight.”

Further actions are planned in St. Cloud, at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, in Minneapolis and in St. Paul.

The protests coincide with efforts to raise the state and federal minimum wages.
