Highway 10 concrete curing planned for Memorial weekend
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

No work on the Highway 10 project is scheduled Saturday-Monday during Memorial Day weekend. Work will resume on Tuesday, May 27.

Highway 10 mainline

Crews will tie reinforcement bars and install lighting conduit to prepare the retaining wall between the new alignment and existing Highway 10 on Monday. The 32-inch concrete railing is scheduled to be poured on Tuesday and Wednesday. Motorists should slow down and watch for a police officer directing traffic through the area.

Gravel trimming of the westbound lanes will begin at the east end on Monday in preparation for concrete paving.

Signal loop installation will take place at the Jackson Avenue, McKinley Avenue and Washington Avenue intersections.

Guardrail along the Highway 10 bridge over the Canadian Pacific railroad tracks will be installed early in the week. Motorists should watch for lane shifts and drive with caution.

Concrete paving of the westbound lanes is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, beginning on the east end of the new alignment, and continuing through town to Summit Avenue.

Crews will work through the day on Friday. The goal is to have the westbound lanes paved prior to Memorial Day weekend, and take advantage of the three-day weekend for concrete cure time. This will allow crews to start placing concrete forms on Washington Avenue north of Highway 10 on Tuesday, May 27.

Roosevelt Avenue

On Monday, the bridge railing on the Highway 10 bridge over Roosevelt Avenue will be poured. Permanent chain link fence will also be installed for safety.

Motorists can expect a temporary road closure on Monday and Tuesday nights from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to allow crews to remove the concrete forms on the bridge.

Washington Avenue

Motorists can expect a four-way stop at Washington Avenue and Highway 10 beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. City police will guide motorists through the intersection as needed 6-9 p.m. During this time crews will remove the temporary signal at the intersection.

Beginning Thursday morning, Washington Avenue north of Highway 10 will be closed to traffic for approximately three weeks. During the closure, motorists will encounter a three-way stop at the intersection. Concrete paving and the installation of the new traffic signal, and curb and gutter will take place during the closure. Motorists should watch for trucks hauling northbound on Washington Avenue.

Crews will be working through the day on Friday, weather permitting.

County Road 54

The south side of the tracks is currently closed for approximately two more weeks for concrete paving. There is no access to Highway 10 from County Road 54. Motorists are being routed to Randolph Road and may access Highway 10 at Kris Street. Motorists should follow the signed detour.

The next Highway 10 project update/public meeting for this construction season will be held Monday, June 9, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes City Hall.
