Highway 10 to open completely this week
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

Highway 10 construction work will continue through the week, but will be restricted to areas away from traffic during WE Fest.

Highway 10 mainline

Crews continue pavement marking and signing on the west end of the mainline early this week. The eastbound lanes of Highway 10 between Summit Avenue and McKinley Avenue are scheduled to open on Wednesday afternoon, and traffic will switch to four lanes through that area.

Signal installation continues this week at Kris Street.

Old Highway 10 (Frazee Street)

Crews continue to work on the south lanes of old Highway 10 between McKinley Avenue and Jackson Avenue this week. Two lane, two way traffic is being maintained through this area. The work is scheduled to be wrapped up this week.

Old Highway 10 is closed between Washington Avenue and Frazee Street. Motorists are able to access Miguel's, Burger Time and Floral Impressions from Frazee Street and McKinley Avenue.

Old Highway 10 will be closed at McKinley Avenue on Wednesday to allow crews to install sewer and water utilities through the intersection. Motorists will be directed to Roosevelt Avenue to Willow Street to Washington Avenue. Once sewer and water utilities are installed the roadway will reopen with a gravel surface.

Frontage Road

Crews are reconstructing a new frontage road between Jackson Avenue and East Shore Drive. Grading, storm sewer installation and gravel placement continue this week.

Crews will begin placing curb this week. Paving is scheduled for the beginning of next week.

The frontage road traffic pattern will be shifted slightly mid-week to allow crews to work in different areas. Access to frontage road businesses will be maintained at all times using either old Highway 10 or the existing frontage road. Highway 10 traffic can access these frontage road businesses at Corbett Road and North Shore Drive.

The frontage road between North Shore Drive and East Shore Drive is closed. During this time crews will reconstruct the boat landing and overlook area, build two retaining walls between the frontage road and Big Detroit Lake, work on the new bike trail and construct the East Shore Drive/frontage road intersection. Motorists should use Highway 10 to get around the Big Detroit Lake.

Washington Avenue

Work on Washington Avenue south of Highway 10 will wrap up on Monday. Once the pavement marking and signing process is complete, the south section of Washington Avenue will open to traffic. Motorists will have a four-way stop at the Highway 10 intersection while crews finish up signal work. Once all four lanes of traffic on Highway 10 open through that area on Wednesday, the traffic signal will be activated at the Washington Avenue intersection.

Crews continue to pour various sidewalks in and around the Washington Avenue and Highway 10 intersection this week.

The Depot Park 'n Ride is closed.

Roosevelt Avenue

Roosevelt Avenue south of old Highway 10 (to Park Street) is closed to through traffic.

Motorists have a three-way stop at the intersection of northbound Roosevelt Avenue and Highway 10 as crews continue signal work at the intersection. Traffic is being redirected to McKinley Avenue and Park Street. Motorists should follow the signed detour.

Crews finished curb work and paving the area south of Highway 10 to Park Street.

Motorists are now able to access Lakes Liquors and Stop & Go from the south, but are not able to access Highway 10 from the south until signal work is complete sometime next week.

Kris Street

There is a lane closure and stop sign condition for all turning motorists entering or exiting Kris Street through Wednesday.

The Kris Street railroad crossing is scheduled to close for one day on Thursday, Aug. 7, to allow Mn/DOT and BNSF crews to test the new signal system on Highway 10 and Randolph Road.

The next Highway 10 project update/public meeting for this construction season will be held Monday, Aug. 11, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes City Hall.
