Hold marriage to God's word; vote "yes" on amendment

Email

We were disappointed to see a "church" leader in our community supporting gay marriage, or more specifically, opposing the proposed marriage amendment on the ballot this November. Part of his reasoning was that if it passed it would "mix religion and politics in our constitution." We would encourage people to read the constitution. In the preamble to the Minnesota Constitution it says, "We the people, of the state of Minnesota, grateful to God for our civil and religious liberty..." Apparently our forefathers saw that it was good to include the recognition of God in our constitution.

This vote is not about tolerance, kindness, love or mixing religion and politics. It's about whether or not we will hold to what God's word makes very clear -- that marriage is to be between a man and a woman, and that He wants them to reproduce. We should all read again what God has said concerning this in His word in Matthew 19:4-6, 1 Corinthians 7:2-3 and Genesis 1:27-28.

Not only do some people willingly try to violate this institution that God gave us but they even try to approve a system that God has said is sinful and evil. God's word makes it very clear that homosexuality is sin that needs to be repented of (Leviticus 18:22, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Those who push this agenda are pushing a lie because they have rejected God's truth and authority (Romans 1:25-27).

We would hope that people in all of our Minnesota communities would confirm the truth of what God has said in His word. To do otherwise will bring consequences of God's judgment on all of us.

Be wise and vote "yes" on the marriage amendment this Nov. 6. -- Pastor Jim Hinson, Pastor Mark Kiser, Pastor Duane Lahlum, Pastor Paul Larson, Pastor Jim Osvold, Pastor Dale Robins, members of the Evangelical Pastors Fellowship of Detroit Lakes
