If you're looking for a variety of homemade Christmas cookies, candies and ethnic delicacies without all the work that goes into making them, the Cookie Walk is the place to be next weekend.

Holy Rosary will host the 20th annual event from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at the church, where dozens of cookies will be featured and sold.

Sue Braun, one of the organizers of the event, said the entire parish contributes to the Cookie Walk and many members bake homemade cookies that will be sold by the pound.

"People are so very busy, and if they can come in and buy their cookies, that way they don't have to make them," she said with a laugh.

Which is why the event has been successful for 20 consecutive years: "If you can buy 20 different kinds of cookies, as opposed to making five kinds of cookies, what a nice thing for your family," Braun said.

Also at the Cookie Walk will be hot off the grill, homemade lefse, warm from the oven sweet rolls and free coffee. A silent auction will also take place to help with the fundraising efforts.

Holy Rosary members will also bring in some homemade ethnic varieties such as Norwegian krumkake cookies and Italian pizzelles, as well as candies and caramels for the entire family.

Braun said the church does not usually set a goal for how much money members would like to raise at the event, but they emphasize that it's about quality and not quantity, although most cookies are sold out right when the event kicks off in the morning.

"You're depending on other people, so it's a little hard to set goals," she said. "We just want to make sure that everybody has a really good time."

Organizers encourage people to get there early, take advantage of the variety and get some "holiday baking" done.

"You have to come early, otherwise you're left with crumbs sometimes," Braun said with a smile.
