The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is hosting its monthly Artists' Forum at 7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Public Library. All visual artists are welcome to attend.

Bunker, Heisler duet
Russell Bunker and Paul Heisler perform an Advent/Christmas piano duet as part of the Wednesdays in Advent fine arts series at the First Lutheran Church, DL. The concert is at noon, and soup and sandwich will be served following the performance.

LP-A holiday concert
Lake Park-Audubon High School music department presents the senior high choir, junior high choir and Raider pop group in a 2008 Holiday concert at 1:45 and 7:30 p.m. in the LP-A high school gymnasium. It is free admission.
Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society holds its Christmas party meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum & Research Library. The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. Members and guests are asked to bring one or two non-perishable food for donation to the Becker County Food Pantry.
Schanilec book signing
Local author Dr. Ernest Francis Schanilec signs his latest novel, Ice Lord, at 4 p.m. in Country Charm in the Washington Square Mall.

Singer-songwriter Elisa Korenne will present a concert entitled "Minnesota's Ordinarily Unsung" at 8 p.m. in Perham's ITOW Veterans Museum. Created expressly for the Minnesota Sesquicentennial, these songs and stories are about real Minnesotans, who are not usually covered in traditional history classes. Their stories were collected by Korenne, who created the "Minnesota's Ordinarily Unsung" concerts and workshops that have been performed across Minnesota in celebration of Minnesota's 150th anniversary as a state. This final concert of 2008 will be recorded live by Resound Recordings at the ITOW Veterans Museum, 805 West Main, Perham. Library open house
Detroit Lakes Library is all dressed-up for Christmas. Everyone is invited to stop in and enjoy the community library from 2 to 5 p.m. Hot spiced cider and holiday goodies will be served, and Tamie Jensen of Northwind Crossing will perform a variety of Celtic holiday music.

On Saturday, Dec. 13, alternative rock band Kill Baxter will be performing at the Hitterdal Community Hall from 9 to 11 p.m. for a teen concert and dance. This event is sponsored by the Ulen-Hitterdal band and choir students as a fundraiser for their upcoming April trip to New York City. Proceeds will be used to help cover the costs of bussing and chaperones.
It's "Forensic Files goes to Bethlehem" in this holiday mystery extravaganza by the author of "Late Nite Catechism" and "Late Nite Catechism 2." Sister takes on the mystery that has intrigued historians throughout the ages -- whatever happened to the Magi's gold? Retelling the story of the nativity, as only Sister can, this hilarious holiday production is bound to become a classic. Enjoy an afternoon of Christmas gifts, holiday music and more at the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center (DLCCC) Christmas Marketplace, which will be open from noon to 6 p.m. in the Holmes Ballroom. The main marketplace will feature booths from area artists and crafters, while the theater's lower level lobby will host an all new home-based business area. Hand paint a mug as part of the DLCCC's "Get Mugged" art outreach project (one mug $15, two for $25), and it will be returned to you in time for Christmas! There is no admission charge. CPR Holiday Train
The Canadian Pacific Railroad Holiday Train makes its annual stop at the Holmes Street Crossing in Detroit Lakes at approximately 4:15 p.m. There will be a live music show, hot chocolate, and donations for the Becker County Food Pantry will be accepted. This year's entertainers and musicians include Shaun Verreault, singer-guitarist-songwriter for blues-rockers and Canadian live favorites Wide Mouth Mason; and Juno award-winning singer and songwriter Melanie Doane.
