The Minnesota State Arts Board and Arts Midwest have awarded $361,200 to 21 Minnesota arts organizations to help preserve jobs in the nonprofit arts sector that are threatened by the current economic downturn. Of those selected was Holmes Center in Detroit Lakes for $25,000.

Recipients were chosen from a pool of 150 applicants, who requested a combined total of more than $3.1 million. The grants are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act/Minnesota Arts Jobs grant program.

Funding for the program was provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, through the National Endowment for the Arts.

"The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 recognizes that the nonprofit arts industry is an important sector of the economy," according to Sue Gens, executive director of the Minnesota State Arts Board.

In addition to these grants, an additional 26 Minnesota arts organizations received American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grants.
