Hornet girls, guys finish fifth at meet
The boys' and girls' track teams at Frazee -Vergas High School earned identical fifth-place finishes at the Varsity Invitational meet in Barnesville Tuesday.
Senior Forrest Jackson continued to dominate the 100-meter dash field, earning gold with his time of 10.86. He also took first in the long jump with a distance of 20-10.
On the distance side, Ellie Bachman also earned Hornet gold in the girls' 800-meter run with her time of 2:32.85, just ahead of Lake Park-Audubon's Breann Hogie with her time of 2:34.95.
Frazee also recorded a top five finish in the girls' 100-meter hurdles, as Krissy Marlen finished fourth with a time of 18.59.
In the boys' 800-meter run, Frazee's Bruce Lemon came in second to Fergus Falls' Mike Hurley with a time of 2:07.41. Hornet freshman Tristan Watchorn also brought home silver in the boys' 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:47.33.
Hornet junior McKinzie Tangen took home silver in the girls' triple jump with a distance of 31-10, while sophomore Cody Nordquist also took second in the boys' 110-meter hurdles.
Frazee took home a trio of bronzes in the relays as well, including the boys' 4x100 with a time of 46.31; the girls' 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:36.24; and the girls' 4x200 meter relay at 1:54.94.
"We let the kids mess around with different events and have a little fun today," said Frazee coach Brian Tangen. "We still had some good results and may have found a couple new events for some guys."
Frazee will now prepare for its sub-section meet, which starts at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Pelican Rapids.
