Hutchinson wins medalist laurels in season opener
The Detroit Lakes girls' golf team didn't have much room for error in their season opener Thursday, but they made the most out of it with a second-place finish.
Having just four golfers -- all eighth graders -- (only the top four of six scores count), the Lakers shot a 372, as Trisa Hutchinson won medalist laurels after firing a 44-39 for a low-meet score of 83.
"Not a bad start," said DL head coach Jen Hendrickson. "That was Trisa's best score ever and we took second by seven strokes, which isn't bad for four eighth graders in (strong) winds."
Natalie Roth also shot well, taking fifth with a 50-42 -- 92, while Matty Tschider was seventh at 94 and Emma Thompson 15th with a 103.
Moorhead won the team title with a 365, while Moorhead Black was third with a 411.
Mahnomen finished fifth with a 452 and was led by Kyla Omang with a 99.
The Lakers will play at the TPC in Blaine Monday at 1:30 p.m.
