April 26, 1915-Aug. 2, 2010
Idella L. Lien, 95, of Lake Park, died Monday, August 2, 2010 at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park.
Idella Lucille Baumgard was born to Herman and Alma (Ihrke) Baumgard on April 26, 1915 in Brewster, Minn. Shortly after Idella was born, the family moved to Audubon, where she grew up and attended school.
Idella graduated from Audubon High School in 1933. She married Stanley Lien on June 20, 1939, in Audubon. Together they farmed north of Lake Park until 1962, when they and their three children moved into Lake Park. Stanley died on October 6, 1968.
Idella worked at the Lake Park Cafe, Jordahl's Grocery Store and Red Owl, which later became Jeff's Grocery Store. She also worked at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes as well as the Lake Park Senior Citizen Center. Idella enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, cooking as well as playing cards. She was famous for her delicious cinnamon rolls and pies.
At Sunnyside, Idella also enjoyed watching the shopping channel. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Audubon, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years, and serving in the Ladies Aid.
Surviving Idella are two sons and a daughter, Neil (Donna) Lien of Spring Valley, Minn., Terry (Candy) Lien of Fargo and Joan (Jerry) Dretsch of Chesapeake, Va.; nine grandchildren and 14 great grand children, including Jaci and Dan Zimmerman and their daughters Carrie, Rachel, and Haley of River Falls, Wis.; DeDee and Corey Marzolf and their daughters Kelsey and Mackenzie of Spring Valley, Minn.; Sarah and Scott Collette of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; Courtney and Jay Soltau and their children Grace and Jackson of Grand Meadow, Minn., Shannon and Richard Johnson and their children Stephen, Kathryn, Timothy, Elliot and Averill of Suffolk, Va., Collin Dretsch of Arlington, Va.; Andy Lien of Fargo, N.D.; Becky Lien of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Aaron and Erica Lien and their children Asta and Anders of Okinawa, Japan.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; two brothers, Lester and Calvin Baumgard; and an infant sister.
Beloved baptized child of God, faithful worker with us in the kingdom of God, this servant and friend, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother leaves our hearts wishing for good years beyond 95. We trust in God's faithfulness to all who mourn and we celebrate the hope in Christ which Idella knows now and eternally.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Wright Funeral Home in Hawley.
The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Audubon, with interment following in the church cemetery.
