Ilo L. Bentley, 85, of Hawley, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Hawley Senior Living Center in Hawley.

Visitation is set from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at David Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.

Funeral services for Ilo will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, in First Lutheran Church of Detroit Lakes, with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.

In celebration of Ilo's life, the family requests that guests wear "blue jeans" to the service on Friday.

Ilo was born to Ingvald and Lydia (Schlenz) Bentley on May 9, 1926 in rural Twin Valley. He was raised and educated near Twin Valley.

Following his schooling Ilo enlisted into the United States Army and served during World War II. Ilo was united in marriage to Gladys Berg on December 19, 1948 in Ulen. They lived in various places around the area before settling in Detroit Lakes in 1963.

Throughout Ilo's working career he was employed by Nash-Finch Foods, Consolidated Freightways, Seaberg's Standard Oil and Olander Bus Company.

Over the years, Ilo enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends, especially a fun game of pinochle. Ilo also found enjoyment spending the day fishing out on the many lakes in the area and waltzing on a Saturday night with his wife Gladys.

Ilo will be remembered and missed by his wife of 62 years, Gladys of Hawley; his nine children, Leland (Diane) Bentley of Ulen, Gregory (Nancy) Bentley of Frazee, Ronald (Lynn) Bentley of Shorewood, Jerry (Becky) Bentley of Detroit Lakes, Jamie (Kim) Bentley of Hawley, Julie (John) Hulne of Moorhead, Debra Menke (Ryan) of Hawley, Dorine (Roger) Sorben of Ironton, Minn., and Laurie Bentley of Hawley.

He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one sister, Inez Ellingworth of Twin Valley, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter Jacqueline Bentley; and sister, Leona Christianson.
