Aug. 27, 1922-Feb. 27, 2013

Ingrid E. Erickson, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.

Memorial Services for Ingrid will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 8 in David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.  

Interment will be held in Beach, N.D.

Ingrid Evelyn Granat was born to Oscar and Edith (Engstrom) Granat on August 27, 1922 in Beach, N.D. She grew up on the family farm near Golva, N.D., graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1940. Following graduation Ingrid enrolled at Concordia College in Moorhead. When World War II started, Ingrid returned home and started working at a local bank.

On July 27, 1946 Ingrid was united in marriage to Raymond Erickson in Beach. She continued her employment at the bank until they purchased Gordon’s Bakery in 1961. Ingrid and Raymond worked side by side until Raymond became ill. In 1969 they sold the bakery. Raymond died in 1974.

Ingrid starting working for Golden Valley County in the human services department in Beach. She thoroughly enjoyed her job and was in charge of providing assistance programs for those in need. Ingrid retired in 1999.

In 2001, Ingrid moved to Detroit Lakes to be closer to her daughter. She enjoyed traveling with her homemakers group, visiting many sites throughout the years.

An artist at heart, Ingrid loved to paint, draw, sketch and take photography. She also enjoyed being part of Cormorant Area Art Club and attending local and regional art shows. Going for drives during the fall season was a favorite as the colors and scenery were especially appreciated through Ingrid’s eyes.

An avid sports fan, Ingrid enjoyed watching golf and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Spending time with her family was very important to her. A proud “Grandma,” Ingrid extensively followed her grandchildren’s activities. Sending cards and saving newspaper articles brought her much enjoyment throughout the years.

Ingrid will be remembered and missed by her daughter, Dorothy Erickson of Detroit Lakes; son, Dennis (Nancy) Erickson of Bismarck, N.D.; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Edith May Knight of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one brother, Carl (Donna) Granat of Golva, N.D.  

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Raymond (1974); three brothers, Richard, Larry and Johnny; along with three sisters, Esther Warzoka, Hilda Helsper and Gladys Woodard.

David Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
