Injuries derail Detroit Lakes boys' tennis team
Battling injuries came at the wrong time for the Detroit Lakes boys' tennis team as they took on the 2009 mid-state conference co-champions from Park Rapids Friday.
Some new faces had to step in to fill the roster for the Lakers -- which included senior Bryant Swenson making his first varsity appearance of the year.
"We actually played pretty well today," said head coach Jim Hinson. "Bryant Swenson, Tom Warweg and Derrick Brehm stepped in and played hard."
The Lakers only match won came in the number two doubles match as the mid-state conference champion duo of Jesse Meyer and Isaac Fondrick beat Kyle Dickinson and James Kujawa 6-2, 6-2.
The number one doubles match up was a rematch of the mid-state conference semi-finals thriller in which the Park Rapids duo ousted Jake Hartman and CJ Hanson.
Friday had the same result with the same excitement as the Panthers topped Hartman and Hanson 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
"We were very close and competitive in number 1 and 3 doubles," said Hinson. "We were outlasted in 3 sets each won by Park Rapids."
The Lakers season only holds two more meets before the section tournament as they take on Perham and then the mid-state conference co-champions from Staples/Motley.
