Injuries taking toll on Laker wrestling team
The holiday break couldn't have come at a better time for the beat up Detroit Lakes wrestling team, after the Lakers had five open weights in Tuesday's 53-21 loss in Crookston.
A bevy of injuries have struck the Lakers in the first month of the season and that was ever so apparent Tuesday, which obviously affected the team's chances and motivation.
"These guys are so team-oriented, that having that many open weights gives points right off the bat," said DL head coach Rob Ullyott. "It affects them. It was a hard duel to get any perspective of."
The Lakers gained their points off of one Crookston forfeit to 171-pounder Alex Feldt, a pair of pins by Mike Bellefeuille at 119 and Jordan Jones at 160, while Parker Jackson won his 130 match over Zane Baranski with an 8-7 decision.
The Lakers will have the next two weeks off of competition to practice and start figuring out who will be filling those open weights.
The Lakers (3-3) will resume their schedule at the Perham Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 9.
