With ‘instant save,’ ND’s Perkins survives another round on ‘Voice’

Kat Perkins was five minutes away from walking off “The Voice” stage for good Tuesday night.

But thanks to the “Instant Save,” a song about Paris and a large fan base, the Scranton, N.D., native and Minneapolis resident survived another round on the NBC talent show.

Perkins kicked off Monday’s episode by singing “Landslide.” She once again drew praise from the judges.

But it wasn’t enough to push her forward without fighting a second time.

After a night of fans voting through iTunes and social media, Perkins was in the bottom three with blues singer Bria Kelly and pre-law student Tess Boyer. This triggered the “Instant Save,” where viewers had five minutes to vote and save their favorite artist after they sang for possibly the last time.

Perkins chose to cover “Paris (Ooh La La)” by Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. The song was enough for voters to keep her on the series, ending the show for Boyer, who was in the bottom three last week, and Kelly.

Two more people will be eliminated next Tuesday after the top eight sing Monday. “The Voice” airs at 7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC affiliates.
