Former Audubon resident Iona V. Larson, 92, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Iona was born the daughter of Swen and Liechen (Schlenner) Swenson on August 23, 1918 in Jamestown, N.D. She was raised and educated in Lake Park.
Iona was united in marriage to Donald Larson on April 1, 1943 in Audubon. They made their home in Audubon. Iona worked as a cook for the Audubon Public Schools for many years.
Iona enjoyed cooking, baking and shopping. Her baking ability was well known by her family and friends. Iona was the "best baker ever," especially when she baked her doughnuts. She also made sure no one left her home on an empty stomach. Iona will be missed by her family, and her home baked goodies will also be missed by many.
Surviving Iona are her daughter, Phyllis Weets of Detroit Lakes; son, Don "Bomber" (Kathy) Larson, of Audubon; six grandchildren, Marty (Jesse) Weets, Monica Weets, Wade (Shelley) Weets, Wendi Weets, Summer (Trent) Ovsak and Kasey (Kim) Larson; 12 great grandchildren, Nicholas, Kayla, Haley, Matthew, Cole, Jordan, Jasmine, Alexis, Sami, Kensie, Kolin and Kole; one sister, Vivian Wandersee of Detroit Lakes; brother-in-law, Leonard (Lucille) Tollifson of Aberdeen, S.D.; sister-in-law, Teresa Larson of Moorhead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Iona in death were her parents; husband, Donald (1997); and one grandson, Michael Donovan Larson.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 26 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.
Memorial services are set for 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, at First Lutheran Church, Audubon.
