Irene June Globstad, 92, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes.
Irene was born to Severt and Mabel (Erickson) Balken on June 2, 1921 in Audubon. She attended rural country school in Audubon. She did domestic work for many years.
Irene married Selmer Globstad on September 27, 1942. They lived south of Lake Park on the family farm and raised their family. She worked for Lake Park Public School for many years.
Irene enjoyed flowers and belonged to the Lake Park Garden Club. She spent the last of her years in Detroit Lakes. Irene loved coffee and was known in the nursing home as the "Coffee Queen."
Surviving Irene are her children, Gary (Debra) Globstad of Lake Park, Iris (Harold) Oss of Shawano, Wis., and Cherryl (Larry) Lovold of Lake Park; sisters, Melna Globstad, Adelia Maneval and Ilene Sampson; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Selmer; sister, Doris Topp; and daughter-in-law, Karen Globstad.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 in Cormorant Lutheran Church, Cormorant, MN.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Wright Funeral Home in Hawley, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church the following day.
Interment will be at Cormorant Lutheran Cemetery in Cormorant.
