Irvin P. Wegleitner, 82, Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Irvin Paul Wegleitner was born on Feb. 22, 1927, to John and Lizzie Wegleitner. He grew up in the St. Paul area. In 1944, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. Irv married Lois Hendrickson in 1948. They lived in St. Paul and Ulen for a time and settled in Moorhead in 1952, where they raised their two sons, James and Paul. Irv worked for the City of Moorhead for over 30 years. Irv and Lois enjoyed their retirement at their lake home on Little Pelican Lake and made a number of trips to warmer climates during the winters. Lois passed away in 2001. The last several years Irv spent summers at his lake home and winters in Laughlin, Nev. Irv made friends wherever he went. Despite years of serious health problems, Irv never gave up. His positive, accepting attitude was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Regardless of the challenges he faced, he stayed independent until his last weeks.
Irv is survived by his sons, James (Marla) Wegleitner, Paul (Lois) Wegleitner; four grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Johnson, Alice Saunders; a brother, Jerry Wegleitner, and his step-mother, Agnes Wegleitner.
Funeral services are Friday, June 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral in the church.
Internment is in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
