ITOW Museum to receive AmeriCorps team
The Friends of the History Museum of East Otter Tail County recently learned that they will be the recipients of an AmeriCorps NCCC team!
The team will be available this spring to help finish work on the ITOW Veterans Museum building. The ITOW Veterans Museum is located in a 12,000-square foot building formerly owned by VFW Post 4020, who donated it to the Friends of the History Museum for the purpose of creating a place to tell the stories of area veterans.
Initially, 6,000 square feet was remodeled for gallery exhibit space including a 1600 square foot gallery which is used frequently for cultural activities and traveling exhibits.
After the Museum opened in 2006, the remainder of the building was slowly developed for meetings and events. There is still an additional 3,300 square feet of undeveloped and underused space in the building, a portion of which is currently occupied by The White Elephant Thrift Shop. Most of the cost involved in remodeling this section would be labor cost and an AmeriCorps team could assist us in accomplishing this goal.
