Recent news of the city's plans to build a new municipal liquor store on the current Burger Time site has many asking the big Time question -- are they relocating in Detroit Lakes?

"Yes," said Jack Chivers, the real estate broker who is representing Burger Time in the sale to the city, "We are looking for another site for them to reconstruct or build new in DL -- we just don't know where yet."

Chivers says they don't necessarily need to find the place with the highest visibility in town because their success has not been tied to their location.

"They have a cult following," said Chivers, "they just won a contest in Fargo for having the best burger, so they don't have to be located next to the highway or anything."

So when will Burger Time close its doors?

Detroit Lakes City Administrator Bob Louiseau says although he expects the sale to go through in the next 30 days, they will likely lease the building back to Burger Time Owner Gary Copperud (a business man out of Colorado) until the city is ready to tear it down.

"But it looks like we won't be ready to do anything until next spring anyway," said Louiseau, who also said the city paid Copperud $560,000 for the land.

"It was appraised at $545,000," said Louiseau, "so we came pretty close."
